I have a bone stock 1999 Venture that flashed the diagnostic light then backfired with flames out the exhaust. The pipe turned cherry red and caught the hood on fire. There was plenty of antifreeze and sled ran fine. What happend and why ? Thanks for any help !

The pipe could have been clogged with something and it built enough pressure to push it out.
I had this happen on my old 83 polaris 440 Was on the trail and same thing happened all though i got the hood up in time but it did leave a nice hole in the middle of the pipe. Boy was that a loud and ride back to the truck.
Here when that happened i looked in the snow and a bunch of stuff came out. Bunch of hay nuts and all kinds of stuff the mouse got in there and built a nest and it finally rattled lose on the trail

I could understand the mouse nest theory if it was the begining of the season ? But, then I guess they can work fast ? It got so, hot it melted the temperture sensor and engine rolls over hard !
