I have a 2001 SXR 600 Triple and have to install 1"studs in my new track. The old track had 144 studs. The question I have is...Do I install 144 studs or should I reduce it to 96? I have received so many comments about how many I should install based upon the size of the machine that I'm totally confused now.

Is the 600 mostly stock? is it trail ridden?
If so 96 will be more than adequate. 144 is fine too, but not necessary unless you do more ice runs, or if you have triple pipes and other goodies on it that will put it into a heigher HP number.
We had 96 on our 96 XCR600 (single piped triple with ~100hp- so very similar to the sxr that way) and never had any problems, either with hook up, or stud bending/breaking/ pull outs.

96 will work just fine.

The machine is a bone stock 600 Triple single pipe. I mostly do trail riding in Michigan.

If you need them I have a complete set of Woody's carbides with aluminum backers and nyloc nuts. I have the drill and template everything is brand new. Would make you a really good package deal. If interested PM me. A couple things to remember, The more studs, the less top end (considerable loss) The more studs the less chance of tear outs and pull throughs because the load is distributed more evenly with less stress per stud. The more studs the longer the ski carbides.
