My Viper seems to be back firing a lot lately when I shut it off. Anyone else ever have this problem? What would be the cause? Thanks.

I get this with my ski-doo rev after long hard pulls with a quick shutdown. I believe its extra fuel that was draw into the hot pipe and then it ignites in pipe from the pipe being so hot and that's what makes the backfire. if I am wrong, someone please correct me.

Do you let it drop completely to idle (1800RPMS) for a few seconds, or do you shut it down while you roll to a stop? Under what circumstances does it happen?

My viper will backfire like mopar's rev, after long pulls. I will let it idle for abit and sometimes it still backfires alittle.
Yah, that's where I was going... count to 60 before you shut down. If it back fires after that, some one must have put a ski-doo motor in it when you were not looking.

Like other's said....
Let her idle down nice(1,600) for a minute or two(that also helps to cool the motor down)shouldn't do it then..
i let mine idle for 1 to 2 minuets then kill it..

Hmm, daman... you let you sled idle for a few minutes before shutting down... You may be on to something there. My buddies 2005 Ski-Doo 800HO sounds like a shot gun every time he shuts it off. I should tell him let it sit for a bit, or just buy a Yami! :P
Atually, my Viper started doing this on occassion when I'd be off the gas after a good pull... never after shut down though. I thought it was just because of lower octane gas that I had to put in it one ride.

Yes, I think that was the problem. I shut it down to quick after a long hard pull. Wondering also about the low octane gas. I have been burning regular gas this winter as the price of premium is through the roof!!!!!

no but you should try to use premium,,at least 89,or your asking for it with a long WOT pull,keep a eye on plug color and wash too,VERY important.
