I finally got around to changing my brake fluid in my 98 SRX yesterday as well as cleaning up the sled and giving it the once over in prep for a trip were planning on Monday and got to thinking about the brake hose.I know in the manual it says to replace it every 4 years or if it gets cracked or damaged but I would like to know if anyone has taken it upon themselves to replace an otherwise good brake hose just because of its age. There's a place in the nearest city to me that makes braided lines and I thought about seeing if I can get them to make me one as long as the fittings are the same.Possibly sometime after the season is over I'll take it up and see if I can get one made.

never done one as preventive maintenance, but if it looked cracked and tired i sure would. all the ones ive done were for bar risers. the braided hoses really enhance the brake system. i also prefer the more expensive synthetic fluid.

if they looked like the rubber is craacking, then yeah, replace it. But even out 87 indy trial's hydro brake hose looks perfectly fine, so no reason to change. Heck, I changed the front brake hoses on my sportbike to braided SS ones for better stopping power, but the old original 97 hoses were just fine.
I think there are very few that have actually changed them because the manual says to every 4 yrs.

Mine actually looks fine externally but I wasn't sure I anyone had one deteriorate inside to the point that the fluid was blocked off.I've seen this happen on a truck wheel where the line collapsed inside and wouldn't allow fluid to flow, took a while to figure that one out as I've never had it happen before.
