Can the drive axle shaft be installed into a sled without pulling the chain case housing away...03 viper...I am waiting on a track & was hoping to reinstall the engine & things until I get the track...

Absolutely, but you need the lower chain case bearing out to do it, which you probably already have out. I did my heat exchanger and new track without removing the inner chain case housing.

But I shouldn't have replied, as I'm not a Pro, lol.

Oh yah, process.....

Remove chain case cover, chain, lower gear and bearing circlip. Then disassemble speedo bearing bracket, remove bearing set screws and pound everything towards the chain case. Once the bearing pops out of the chain case you'll have sufficent play to clear the side of the tunnel and pull the drive shaft out. Install in reverse order.

If you've already removed the drive shaft by taking the housing off, you'll need to get the bearing out of the housing. Simply remove the circlip, find an approprate size socket and press the bearing out of the housing.

I have only seen one chassis of sled in all the brands I have had that the entire chaincase needed to be removed to drop the drive axle

Yes, I had it out already replaced all brgs & seals in the housing & have the new speedo side ready to install...but waiting on a track & cooler...I was going to install the cooler from under side/rivets & start re-assembly of engine & chaincase...I really do not want to pull that bearing out again & reinstall...so I'll just wait till the cooler & track arrives...no sence rushing, cause you only gonna screw things up-is what my dad always said...good advice...Thanks for now, oh I will most likely need more help down the road...

If you don't pull the inner case you must be very carefull not to damage the oil seal. Those splines on the axle can rip that thing up real easy!!!

Wow, I've pulled drive shafts out of many sleds and never pulled the inner case. I'm not saying the above is wrong, just seems like a whole lot of work for nothing.

Next time I have mine off I'll take more pictures, but I'll keep doing it my way. You can always replace the seal while its still in the sled if you f'it up.
