I have a 2001 srx that i am going to race on the ice next year. It is currently setup for trail riding. So far the motor has been ported and polished, it has boared carbs, v force reeds, a hauck clutch kit, cold air kit as well as a gutted air box, a hauck growler can, and probably some more odds and ends that i cant think of right now, lol. I plan on racing it 1000 feet. I am looking for the best clutch and gearing setup for racing that distance as well as some good ways to shave weight off the sled. And i am open to more ideas to help me out as well.

thanks,

ditch the stock seat, put a small seat pad on the tunnel
replace stock gas tank with small fuel cell
get a proline or whal brothers rear suspension, proaction is heavy
replace airbox with cone style filters
remove sway bar
replace stock bars with aluminum drag style bars with aluminum throttle block
replace stock shocks with small diameter asphalt shocks
pull out headlight assembly and gages and run egt gages.
A lot of people run a 13" wide track instead of the 15"
Im sure there is more somewhere that can be shaved off if you get clever.

those sound like awesome ideas but i wasnt really looking at spending that much money. I pretty much just would like to get it clutched, geared, and jetted right. the way i was going to shave weight was take some things off that arnt needed.

Any pics of the seat mod???

Sweet. I'm starting on tar this spring. Don't mean to steal this thread, but I have a thread related to it if you want to check it out. Looks like you know what you're doing.

Hey sno racer, I kinda did the same thing. Kept it simple. Hauck #4 clutch kit, 22 t primary gear, power sheve, dropped 2 sizes down from stock on the jets, 192 woodys golddigger studs, 2.5mm top shim on stock transfer rods and man it works. It works real good, for no more than I did.

sounds good, thanks for the post... what time and mph were you getting and in what distance?

If you change your mind about spending money I have a wahl suspension & speed track w/ chissels for sale, you will lose 40#'s quick.

Didn't record any numbers but raced several other sleds. Apex, Attak, 900 Fusion, then another 900 Fusion that had quite a bit of mods done to it. Pretty much smoked the stock sleds in 1/8 to 1/4 mile. Gave the mod 900 fits too!

are we talking speed runs or ice drags because the set ups can be different. In speed runs it does not matter about some track spin off the line but will kill you in drags.

for the most part i will be running drags, but i will go to any speed run if they have them as well.
