ok well in my never ending search for performance modifications, one path led me to study a/m cans..... Seems the aftermarket company claims performance gains, but real world stats by fellow members say different, why would someone put a can on their sled to loose horsepower? I love the idea of an a/m can just because they sound great, but i dont' want to sacrafice a thing........ Whats the deal? is there even a can out there that doesn't effect any performance aspect of it? and just gives sound?

I WOULD LINE EVERYONE UP ON A FENCE. ALL THE MANUFACTOR SRX AFTERMARKET BOX,s. THAN I WOULD LOOK FORWARD TO SIGHTING IN MY .12 GAU SHOTGUN. THATS WHAT I THINK OF ALL OF THEM. STOCK WAY BETTER. NOW WHAT WOULD BE REALLY GREAT INFO IF ANYBODY EVER MADE ANY CHANGES TO THE STOCK BOX. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Its either leave it alone and keep your HP or get a A/M can. 2 main reasons why people go with a A/M can is Weight Savings and the SOUND. End of story!!!!!

The aftermarket exhaust canisters don't make power.........they are just for sound. If you do insist on spending your money on one for sound, buy a Bender can.

Bender swears thier can makes 3-5 h.p. on a srx and they have a folder full of dyno runs to prove it.I didnt get one because its not worth the hassle you get from landowners/cops.

back in the day, i was talking to Gary at MaxxPerf and he said that him and Rich (Dynoport) had a heck of a time developing a silencer for the viper that made the same power let alone more power. but he did say they were able to develop one that made at MOST 2hp more, but at least they didn't loose any HP.

I KNEW GARY AND THE MAXXIMUM BOYS VERY WELL. I KNOW THEY SOLD THE POWER inc. IN THE CATALOG. I FOUND WON AND RAN IT ON MY 2000. SOUND AWSOME BUT LOST HP. STOCK SILENCER WAY BETTER. 3:16 (yammie tony)

I can't imagine nobody can at least make the same HP and TQ as stock, but just weigh less and / or sound better.

This is not an issue on any other brand of sled, nor in any other powersport.

It certainly is not a Yamaha only thing becasue I have dyno proof that yamaha bikes make more power with aftermarket slip ons. Full systems do even more, but cost alot more as well.

You guys convinced me, I put the stock can back on. ( had a Snow Stuff can )We got 6 inches last night . I am going to run the lake with the stock viper and GPS . I will post speed later.

well guys stick to the ones that have a good track record out in western canada and over the years SLP has been a very good pipe and can they are not to loud and got that deep rumble indy car like sound and they make power and still give u gas milleage, my buddy uses SLP on his 2001 sxr 700 and gets great results, it runs with a lot of 800 with out problem and on top end pulls away so id have to say its making power, a lot is done on weight savings, when i,m trailriding I like piped machines then i know if ur coming up behind me and am aware of ur location, a lot of pipes have different power curves and u need to see dyno runs on ur sled so u can clutch to that and if ur not willing to do that then stay stock or u loose power with fuel millage. my 2 cents

i remember the dyno tests bender ran. their srx can did actually make more power than stock. it was +2-3 h.p. midrange & 1-2 h.p. top. problem is those numbers are too low to make any noticable difference in the field. the hauck can lost power.

Back from my ride guys , put on 115 miles today. Sled ran great with stock can. I tried to get top speeds on lake with GPS but the snow was wet and heavy, I could not hook up for a speed run. I don't have any numbers worth posting. (most were in the mid 90's) I know I can do better, it was a traction issue.
Anyway snow is melting fast, sunny and 38 degrees now. BUMMER ! :winterrul

haha people are hilarious when it comes to cans they swear they are the devil, what some of you dont realise is it is a +- 1-2hp spread TOPS. The average trail rider is NOT going to notice a 1 hp drop, hell if the temp is high that day youll lose more then that, if your running off gas youll lose more then that, and if you supersized that hamburg combo it would be the same difference. Step back and come to reliaztion that as far is power is concerned it will all be in your head with the sound and convincing yourself you are truely going faster. But they do offer that killer sound, and that lil bit of weight savings so as long as they arent obnoxious they are a great addition to a triple triple.

Btw im running a Bender.

I DISAGREE. EXPLAIN THE DEFFERENCE IN PERFORMANCE BETWEEN THESE JUNK CANS AND THE STOCK BOX IN SLED LENTGHS. ITS MORE THAN 1-2 HP. 3:16 (yammie tony)

I have a can on my viper. I am now pulling the fastest speeds I have seen on it since I bought it. not saying it was the can that did it, just that it didnt really notice a loss.... on the trail you will not see a difference but you probably will lined up with the lights and a radar gun...

I never noticed a difference on my srx either.I had one of those speed checks and tried two runs back to back. One with the can one with the muffler,no difference.

With all of the people on this forum, someone must have access to a dyno - let's put this to the test and dyno a sled with different cans on it and see what we get - I can provide a MBRP, Hauck, and a Dyno Port can for the test - who's got the dyno??? :dunno:
