Hey boys, im going to convert 3 srx's to 144 this summer and was looking for some pointers. I think we're going to use the kit from Mountain Performance with the 17 degree approach angle, anti ratchet drivers, and not sure exactly wich track to go with. Now we will be trail riding these 40-50 % of the time but mostly back country riding. One of our machines is 136" with a 1.5 inch staggered paddle, but is completely useless in the deep stuff. I was thinking of going 2 inch. Now i realize we haveto use a 8 tooth driverswith a 2 inch, but how much gear do you think we will have to go down? Anyinfo on your set ups, tracks, gearing and clutching would be appreciated. Thanks

I have a mountain srx 2 inch paddles 8 tooth drivers under heavy load deep snow it ratchets and the track is very tight. When going down trail have to use scatchers to cool slides.I would go 8 tooth anti ratchet drivers all open window track fully clipped

also gear reduction is done with the smaller 8 tooth drivers

I would recommend finding used skids out of actual mtn sleds becasue they will work alot better for you in deep snow conditions. I also am not a fan of rail extensions. IMO

The rail extentions don't amuse me either, but it might keep the cost down a little. My rear suspenson has been long travelled allready. Are they really not that great in the deep stuff? if so, what's the major difference? why don't they work as well?

The approach angle at the front of the track makes a difference.

Best thing to do is NOT use a proaction skid. Look around on ebay or snowest for a used Cat skid. WAY lighter, better ride, better aproach angle, cheaper and stronger than extensions.

3 whole different skids and swap out might get spendy IMO. Maybe you could get the MPI extension kits with the relocation template. This will reduce your approach angle and save some money compared to buying cat skids. Also, You will still have your shortie suspension that will work well on the trails since you will be riding 50 on/50 off trail. Like you mentioned, new tracks x 3 won't be cheap to start with on your project. For new tracks, I would check out Tracks USA and CBPerformance. Otherwise, just watch ebay, TY classifieds, or classifieds on other forum sites for used tracks.

I set my srx with a 144x2. I used rail extensions the first time. It worked well, but I have now set it up with a 136 Polaris x-10 converted to a coil over. So far so good.
You can find good used tracks for $250 - $300 all the time if your patient. Other than the cost of the suspension I don't have more than $400 into my set up and then I sold the 121 skid with the extensions and made back a little better than half that. I could have done better, but I sold everything to my brother-in-law so I tried to treat him right. I've got one pic of it in the sled garage if you can find me in there.
