I am looking to buy a new - used sled. I need a sled to mostly drive around my farm property, but also hopefully take it on the trails. I'm looking for a sled that is very reliable, has lots of aftermarket parts(so I can keep it going for a long time), and is fairly fuel efficient. I found a 2000 Yamaha VMAX 700 Deluxe for sale nearby. It has 9000km, and they are asking $2650CAD for it. First of all, do you people think that this is a good sled for my needs? Do you think it is too much sled for my needs? Do you think this is a half decent price? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much,
Matt

You can go www.snowmobileauction.com and check out the price reports this will give you a good idea of real world prices. Also I think kelly blue book has sleds. 9k is ~4500 miles right? I would say its in the ball park maybe just a hair high but I think it has electric start and reverse right which will bring the price up a bit.

My wife had a 1999 600 deluxe she loved it and alsways regretted getting rid of it. Its an excellent touring sled.

The engine is nearly bullet proof and great on fuel.. I would always recommend OEM replacement parts.

OK I had to go look at the blue book.

with dollars equalling loonies now days looks like the price is straight out of the book.

In my honest opinion... I love that you are looking for a yamaha firstly. I have owned many sleds over the years and I feel very confident that Yamaha is the most reliable of the bunch. It may not be the fastest or have the best suspension on the market but without a doubt the most relaible. The sled you are talking about is probably a good choice but slightly high on price for this time of the year. I wouldn't pay more than $2000 considering the km's. I would also keep my eyes open for a yamaha venture 700. This machine would also have the electric start and reverse option but also have a 136 track for better floatation and bridging of the bumps. This type of sled is likely to be owned by a couple that normally tours rather then a hot-rodder. The newer Ventures came in the Viper chassis and I feel are one of the BEST sleds ever made by Yamaha. It is extremely reliable , fuel efficent, and quite fast too. You can probably find one for about $2500-3000 this time of the year. If you can afford a bit more go 4 stroke. No question in mind that it is the way of the future for every type of power sport. Best of luck and let me know how you made out.

All of the Yamaha's except this one, seem to be a bit more money, or they are the same price but a few years older. Do any of you Ontario users have any suggestions of where I can be searching online for used Yamaha sleds in Ontario? Thanks,
Matt
