I'm thinking about doing the three wheel to two conversion my 05 Mtn Viper 151" and putting the two wheels inside the rails. I'm looking for opinions as what the advantages/disadvantages would be. On the positive it's supposed to free up hp, up to 5 hp increase. This is primarily a mountain riden sled so I know it's supposed to sidehill and carve better but what about handling in other situations and will it be too tippy?

one disivantage of the 2 wheel set up is if u lose a bearing in one wheel it usaly causes alot of damage. the wheel can pop off the bearing and the track jams into the rails. not very comon put possible. more then a few of the new doo xps did it this year. even a video on yuotube of one having it happen to it. its more likely to happen with plastic wheels then alloy. the plastic is alot softer and there for the clip rings pop out easyer under the same forces
5 hp from taking a wheel off? I would have thought the opposite, more wheels = less resistance, no? But yes, I can see that it would side hill better.

I'm not so sure about the hp gain too, this is what Team 2 Powersports has to say on their website, although this includes the big wheels too so that might be where most of the gain is: "Weight savings of over a pound. Dyno & physical testing with the Big Wheel dipict an average 5hp gain.

I've asked around a lot of people and their thoughts are that if you need the two wheels moved inside the rails to sidehill, you need to learn how to sideill. I asked Tom Hartman what his experience was and he said that on a hard tail landing, you're likely to break some fiberglass rods in the track since the outside support is gone. Just some other peoples opinions. I myself haven't ridden a sled that it has been done to.
