Any input on a more economical ways to improve my ride/handling other than the Ohlins upgrade
I’m about 230+/- lbs and tend to ride slightly harder than average for a 40+ guy
I am familiar with the Pioneer re-valve. I was wondering if there were other set up tricks. Especially in light of gravity’s exceptional pull on me.
No-action skid with the "good" stock 03 shock because its an ER
1.5k miles bone stock
Will have 144 down center @1.075 and 8” triple point wear bars
Think Snow …..273 Days till Christmas

Have you rode the sled yet? If not, you should definately start there. For vipers I always liked to set them up with a lot of center spring preload, really seemed to help a lot for ride compliance as well as corner entry and exit and solid weight transfer. Set the front springs fairly tight to obtain good ski pressure for cornering ability, but there is a fine balance between too tight, which will cause excessive darting as well. As for the rear, set the FRA to the medium position and set the rear spring to provide a 60/40 control rod gap, with the bigger gap being on the top side of the rod guide (with the grease fitting). That should be a good start in the right direction.

I trying to avoid any major rehabs like a skid swap.
I just got his thing and took a nice brisk 100 mile trip on the Tug Hill last Monday
Its not that it was horrible, it just I felt like with a little fine tuning and some minor mods, i could make better use of that insane triple.
I guess my major issue is the way the front end was handling the bumps at higher speeds. (A few white knuckle moments)
It looks like the front springs a cranked tight.
But before I started guessing at things, I figured I'd go fishing here.
And before any one suggests it ,yes, I know, loosing 25 lbs would be the most economical mod.

i second the firmer center spring in the skid and having stiffer straight rate springs in the front will help your ride too....i rode the hill tuesday 85 miles and wednesday 185 miles , not to bad for a last ride, hopefully a day off next week weather permitting, pm if your up for another one last blast...CP

If you don't want to mess with it bring it to Joe Mann Jr at sport-mann here in Syracuse. I took my viper in and told him the issues I had with the skid and he made it 100 times better. The guy knows what he is doing.

I may go with having the set-up done. After I get over letting someone other than me touch one of my toys, It becomes a challenge to find a dealer who truly has the skills.
Good luck in my area (Albany-Saratoga)
I may give Sport Man a call. I was also considering Big Moose Yamaha
