k i am lookin to change over from a standart helmet with a visor to an open face with gogles.... the last helmet pushed me over the edge.... p.o.s. 4 rides never worked right from day 1... too much wind in it i was crying while riding, loaded it up with foam.. killed some of the wind... then had too much humidity in it and well water would be dripping down the visor.... now it is cracked stupid tree branch... anyways.... what should i be looking for when i go to purches an open face set up...

get a lid that fits correctly, and goggles the fit the lid the best. Make sure all exposed skin is covered using a mirror, and you should be good to go. I like dual pane lenses on my goggles, but I ride with friends who use single pane lenses as well. -30 and no pproblems yet.

I have the HJC acx-2 open face with dual pane Spy blizzard goggles and the klim mask. This combo fits and is real comfortable for me. You have to try it all on. I really like the open face. You hear the wind but do not feel it if covered. No fog on the goggles.

I just switched to open face helmet a couple of weeks ago. I bought a Z1R helmet for $35 from denniskirk and a set of Scott Voltage X Therma Googles for $60 and it's the best set up I've had.

The helmet is kind of a personal fit thing. I wear a hjc clx5 because it is the only 3xl that fits me good. If money were no object, and i could try on on I'd look at the new Klim helmet. I have scott 89 x googles with the light sensitive lenses for my #1 pair, and smith and oakley for back ups. they all fit well the scott's just work better. This next tip is mainly a big head tip. Most hoodies or balaclava won't fit googles for me because of the big head. So I wear 2 and off set them to keep the eye opening only as big as the googles. Bottom one is a klim the top one is just a Yamah one. works great. Maxdlx

I run a HJC with the visor and goggles, we used to do this when we CC raced, you can just run with goggles and the visor up, when you get into traffic or it starts snowing real hard you just drop the visor like 2/3 down and it keeps the goggles clean, just like having tear-offs

ditto...

I have been running a MX helmet since before it was considered a norm.

I use dual panes myself, I can't imagine trying a single pane goggle.

Now you can buy sled specific MX style helmets, I still run a bike one with duct tape over the chin vents. A lot has changed recently.

I see Klim has a nice new balaclava that apparently works as well as the no fog masks, but without the slimeyness.

i wore mine is -20 last year for 6 days touring. the only problem i had was the light snow seemed to ice up on the outside of my goggles, every other day, they were awesome! i have a dual pane set of goggles and carry a single pane for the warmer days.

I got a FXR one, best helmet ive ever owned! wore it in -15 to -20 C no problems.
I also got the FXR goggles that fit it good, with dual panes, yellow to help me see the snow a little better.

I use a HJC cl-x3 with a balaclava and the no-fog ontop of that, and scott turbo flow goggles. But usually its -30 to -15 here all winter.

Ya, sorry forgot to through the "c" in there..lol.

it is routinely 0 degrees F around here, and I still ride then with my MX helmet. when it drops to 20-30 below F (not windchill) then I get the full face helmet
