I'm looking at buying a new/used SRX. I looked a an 01 tonight and when it was started there seemed to be oil or something coming from under the power valve on the center cilinder and driping on the exhaust pipe.
Is this a concern? I'm new to the whole power valve thing so I have no idea what might be the problem could be or weather or not it could be something serious. I'm not even sure its oil, all I know is it was black and slipery, maybe carbon? The owner (not original) wasnt sure if the valves have ever been cleaned. sled had 2400 miles only 500 from him.
Another thing I noticed is the belly pan right where the shock mounts seems to have melted from the heat of the exhaust pipes. anyone ever heard of this?

sorry daman.
just dont know who looks in different forums
Blue blood - your sure this is no big deal? I was suprised to see oil driping from there since I have no experience with power valves, thought it may be something major. What exactly do the power valves do? oil coming from exhaust seemed wierd to me, but I just dont know how these things even work.

Should just be an o-ring that needs to be replaced. Powervalves give you essentially two different exhaust port heights. Lower for better mileage and low end power, higher for better top end hp. (That's the quick version anyway)
On a 2-stroke there is always oil in the exhaust. You're just seeing it because it has a place to drip out due to the o-ring.

did you see my reply in your other post???
ryan - If that seal is bad do you think its bad due to a lack of maintainence or not?
Deman - Yes I saw your reply, thanks for all the help.

Not really a lack of maintainence, just one of those things that happens from time to time. It's about a 10 minute fix unless it's the mag side then the pipes will probably have to come out in order to get the valve out.
