I'm looking at buying a new/used SRX. I looked a an 01 tonight and when it was started there seemed to be oil or something coming from under the power valve on the center cilinder and driping on the exhaust pipe.

Is this a concern? I'm new to the whole power valve thing so I have no idea what might be the problem could be or weather or not it could be something serious. I'm not even sure its oil, all I know is it was black and slipery, maybe carbon? The owner (not original) wasnt sure if the valves have ever been cleaned. sled had 2400 miles only 500 from him.

Another thing I noticed is the belly pan right where the shock mounts seems to have melted from the heat of the exhaust pipes. anyone ever heard of this?

Nope your ok,it's just a seal that is leaking and your getting some exhaust oil residue leaking out onto the pipe,a simple RR of that seal will dry things up.

if you buy the sled post back we can show ya what needs to be replaced..
