I want to check the clip position on my carbs. I have a 2000 SRX. Can this be done with the carbs on and what is the best way of doing it. I had the top of the carbs off and it looks bit complicated in there. I'm used to the old round slide carbs where you could just compress the spring and remove everything.

That link will help you understand clip position. When I dig into the carbs I just take them all the way off. Theres to many things you can drop and more than likely never find since most items found in carbs are pretty small. Plus if you dont have a sled lift your back is going to pay.

Thanks. I checked mine and it is set to position 3 with 2 washers on the bottom of the clip. I beleive this is the stock setting. For some reason my sled seems to run rich in the mid-range. What it the stock needle number. Looks like mine is a 6GM26. I bought a ported sled that I put back to stock. Would it be typical to change needle sizes after porting?

Thanks, that's what I did. Is there anything eles that could cause a sled to run rich in the mid-range? It almost feels like there is a miss or its a bit hesitant. If I slowly start to open the throttle it keeps doing it until a certain point then cleans right up and works fine at 3/4 to full.

Yes they look rich. Maybe fuel screws are out to much. I assume it has stock mains. Unless it is very warm it should not be real sluggish like you discribe. You may want to raise the clip a half or one notch and try it.

if he's rich currently, you wouldn't want to raise the needles at all, you would want to drop them, but what is your current jetting setup, before you start leaning/richening things.

You are right, and that's part of the problem with talking about needles. When I read 'drop the needle' I think in my head 'the clip needs to be raised', just the result of lingo when growing up. But when some people mention 'drop the needle' they actually mean the clip. See where the confusion can manifest? The asker needs to understand what they're trying to achieve to be able to make the move or they need to ask for clarification.

yep, raising the clip drops the needle. when i say raise or lower the needle, i mean the needle itself. i didn't specify which way the clip goes, cause i was assuming the tuner would now. sorry for the confusion guys.

I knew i was correct, but i wanted to have others enforce this idea so any newbies to carb tuning would not get as confused.
