Hi
My sled, Yamaha MM700 from 1997, consuming to much 2-stroke oil and a lot of smoke of course. The sled use 1 litre in 10-20km and thats´s to much!
Do anyone know if it´s possible to adjust the amount of oil the motor can get?.

try a search on oil pump adjustment, lots of info on it..
Do these checks in this order;
1st- set idle to 16- 1,7000 rpm's(@ operating temp)
2nd- set throttle end play to 2mm(adjustment for that is down at the carb rack)
3rd- set oil pump cable free play here and here to 19(richer)to 21(leaner)mm
i would try 21 to start..

if you are using that much oil the oil cable has most likely come apart at the adjustment area, which happens easily when pulling the airbox lid. Slip the 2 halves of the cable together then check the amount of freeplay in the cable

Very good, I'll have to check my 600 this summer. Thanks for the pic's as well and point of adjustments. I notice you did not indicate any setting for the alignment mark I was told to check by a dealer right on the pump somewhere. But this is excellent for getting all the cables right.daman said:try a search on oil pump adjustment, lots of info on it..

Also remember if a Yami oil pump fails it goes to full pump, as to not burn a motor just foul plugs. Maxdlx

You were told wrong by your dealer,a triple has no alignment marks, twinstripplec said:I notice you did not indicate any setting for the alignment mark
have that, just set it like in my above post and you'll be good to go,keep
an eye on usage..
twin cyl engines('95-2001) use the alignment marks on the pumpboss.
a triple and vm4's uses cable free play

when it goes into failure mode will it foul plugs for sure? my buddy's sled smokes so much much I can barely breathe behind it. (2000 sxr 700)maxdlx said:Also remember if a Yami oil pump fails it goes to full pump, as to not burn a motor just foul plugs. Maxdlx

to check his free play and look to see if it's outa the slot where the two
cables slide into each other.
any pump after '97 and especially a triple the pumps are very reliable..

When a pump fails it goes to full pump or the same as it is normally at or above 1/2 throttle if remember right. The only place you really notice it is at low speeds and idel. If you let it idel for just a few minutes it will foul the plug. Try what Daman is telling you first, and then look into a bad pump. I should have put that in the first post. Maxdlx

I have seen a couple oil pumps go on the tripples but they were on the '97's. The newer ones seem to be much more reliable.
the twins have alignment marks , so you use the cable to set the mark on the lever to the first line on pump housing at idle ?daman said:You were told wrong by your dealer,a triple has no alignment marks, twins

right....
engine off, throttle wide open, you align marks(adjusting oil cable) on a 95 thru 01 twin.

I am assuming you checked this out by now.
I can't recall if you ever did anything with it, but my sled which s your sled's twin needed a new oil pump. the original part is superseded because yamaha had a lot of problems with the 600's and poor quality oil pumps. Mine was failed rich, like your probably is. i put a new one on last winter (bought the sled only last fall) and the sled is like a completely different beast. Much more power, no plug fouling, and much much better on oil. It drank oil before.
To the OP, the triple oil pumps usually were very reliable, and probably is just out of adjustment. This 600 twin I have is the first sled I have owned that needed a new oil pump, and none of my sleds are new anymore. The only one that was new was my xcsp.
