Oil pump question, i'm using oil!!

Hopefully someone can give me some clue here. My 96 500 is going thru some oil and smoking alot. My light comes on after a full tank of fuel after using one full tank of fuel ...seems like too much compared to my other sleds. The throttle play and idle have been adjusted and the oil pump marks are aligned at WOT. The oil pump i believe pumps oil to the intake manifold rather than the fuel pumplike on later models. Runs great tho and has yet to fowl a plug. Is my pump bad? can i safely back off the adjustment a bit. It puffs out a bit of smoke just idling warm. Suggestions?? I would like to crrrect this before next season.

usaly when a pump fails it has a fail safe where it starts pumping like 2 times more oil them normal with little or no regulation. my guess if ur lines are lined up then ur pump is bad.
 
i dout it. ur best way to find out is to look up both urs and the sx600 and compair the part numbers. if they are the same number then they will work if not chances are it wont.
 
first....

try adjusting your pump so it's LESS then marks lined up @ WOT,it may help
it did on my '01 500 DLX.
 
Thanks , i will try backing off the the WOT marks first. Its just a guess when you vary that setting so maybe i will try about a 1/8 off the mark for starters and proceed further once i get some miles on it. I think this pump injects it into the carb directly. Maybe the vacume in the carb is just pulling extra oil thru the pump? If that is the case, backing off the oil pump setting shouldnt hurt anything right?
 
From the factory there all mixed in the fuel pump then sent to the carbs.

back it off in small steps at a time,i got mine nailed down to right around
45-47:1,,perfect!!!
