Okay gang--
I'm hoping some of yous out there have undertaken this project and can point me in the right direction to get the parts I need at the best price. Here's the summer plans.
I have a 99 MM with a 4" riser, pivot, mountain bar and all the needed cables, etc. I picked up a 98 SRX Mountain last month with stock handlebars. I am going to take ALL the steering goodies off the Mmax and put them on the SRX Mountain.
I am hoping to put a 10" riser and pivot on the MMax. I'm 6'4.5" with a bad back and am hoping that the increase from 4 to 10 inches will eliminate the need for me to have to do so much squatting and bending when out in the deep stuff of Michigan's Upper Peninsula where I call home.
Couple o' questions to put out there...with my height and gorilla arms to match, is a 10-inch riser too much? I don't think so. Are there any of yous out there that have gone to that length? Sure would appreciate some feedback on this one. I don't want to go any lower than 8". The current 4-incher is a help over stock, but it seems that 10 would be ideal.
Second question...where I can go to get all the parts at the same location for the best price? Riser, pivot and all the cable goodies. Also, a buddy of mine was saying they make a steering shaft rod extension that slides down inside the stock rod to add a lot more strength? Anyone got suggestions on this one?
We had a stick SX break its handlebars this winter while out riding in the swamps and that little incident basically totalled the stock sled. If there is a rod strengthener, it sure seems like a dandy investment to help you from losing control of your sled.
We've got several months to work on this so I'm in no rush...but any help that anyone out there could offer would be MOST welcomed and appreciated.
PM me if you have some thoughts, can point me to other posts on this site that are related to this project, or can direct me to sources outside this site. The more I can learn, the better I'll feel about it.
I'm trying not to spend a ton of bucks as I'm sure by the time next winter arrives, we'll be paying $5-plus for premium gas and us poor two-stroke riders are going to have to start saving our pennies now if we plan on being able to rride the whole winter!!
Thanx folks!
