A Co-Worker and I were talking about gas and prices. Then he told me about his brother(whom I know and worked with before) who is a long haul Truck Driver. Here in Manitoba there seems to be a rationing on Diesel Fuel.He said that he is only allowed to buy $400 of Diesel at a time at any station. After that he was told he has to go to another station if he wants to top up.How much fuel can a Semi Truck carry at a time anyways? This seems strange, and if this continues,he said there is going to be trouble on the horizon.Truckers will start to get pissed off making additional stops.Has anyone else heard of this or maybe going thru a similar event like this.I heard that diesel fuel is getting harder to get because of the world demand, boy is this ever going to be a mess if things get worse.Hate even to think about the goods these guys and gals haul to customers are going to be held up or that more time is required to get things moving across country. Truckers may get more fustrated and some may even call it quits if are being given a raw deal.Man if they even decide to protest and blockade...the country will start to suffer. I heard independant drivers could even do a blockade or slow down in order to get everyone's attention that they require more additional $$$$ to haul the goods. This will hurt everyone who requires shippments on time and will bite us the consumer in the butt because we will have to pay more in order to offset the costs to the drivers.
My neighbour next door had 2 Peterbilt trucks, but has sold them now.No more long hauling for him.Now he and his son got jobs running concrete trucks locally for a company. They get a good wage and they don't have to worry about putting fuel in the trucks.Less risk and less hassle and home everyday instead of being gone for the whole week.

My dad's semi's hold 150 gallons per tank I think. They have two tanks so 300 gallons total. 300 gallons X $4.13 per gallon = $1239 They might hold 100 gallons per tank too, I can't remember. 200 gallons would be $826. So it would get you 1/2 a tank or 1/3 tank depending on size.

then there is the farmers(like me) who use lots of diesel fuel...and its not just the diesel fuel its everything we use

WOW!!! That is a lot of fuel they carry at a time.I can't see that they would like to make extra stops in order to get the fuel when they can instead be making some serious miles.Could be a slight pain.I wander what they average per gallon of diesel fuel anyways??

Not sure about the newer trucks but the older rigs used to get around 4-5 mpg. I 've heard of guys not filling up due to weight. Their company would run them sooo close to the limit that they could not fill the tanks. They would only put in what they needed to get to the next stop or just past the scales.

On the worst modern rigs with big power, they can do as poorly as 5 mpg but there are a couple with smaller engines that can do closer to 8 mpg.

wow, that is interesting.Diesel fuel here is costing more then regular gas already for a while.Used to be the other way around. Can I say increased cost of goods is a natural.

^^^^^^
It's the same way here. Groceries have already went up in price alot in the last year.

We are in for a long recession if things don't change.

I was only a youngin' at the time, but economy and stuff was great in the 1990's wasn't it? Then it was good for a while this decade and now we're going down.

My W900 KW holds 300 gallons, and avgs right at 5 loaded and empty. $4.50 a gallon here right now. Keep this in mind it is supply and demand. Gasoline is Diesel fuel refined twice more to get out impurities. So GAS SHOULD COST MORE but there are fewer trucks right now so the freight is moving at an all time high, thus the demand is up, so big oil is jamming it right up our a$$es. It sucks to run 350 miles in 13 hours a day to net 200 bucks at the end of the day. I love how the politicians all try and pass the buck, truth is they are all out to get money from big oil for campaigning, so they look the other way, and blame it on ethanol. Yet big oil is showing stupid hi profit margins, go figure. So to answer your ? yes it would be a real pain in the *** for long haul drivers to be rationed to less than 100 gallons a fill up. Maxdlx

Thanks for answering the question. It just means more pit stops for truckers, less productive time being wasted at the fuel stations. Then take out your rig and get her going again, only to have to stop again for another shot of that venom.Losing time on the road, means less profit to the trucker, taking a little longer to get to their destinations.Truckers better watch that when they stop somewhere even for a bite to eat that no one sneaks around the truck and siphons that damn gold out of the tank.
A while back at the Nursing Home where my wife works, during the night shift s co-workers Van gas tank was siphoned dry and she just filled up the day before. That HURTs a bit.The police already are warning people to try not and leave your car on the street at night if you have a garage or driveway to put it into.Gas locking caps shown on a news reports has had its sales just skyrocket. What a society we live in.People just have to go and steal from others ..them cheap no good for nothing low life bastards. When my dad used to farm and came to harvesting,he would sometimes leave his combine in the field overnight because it was a pain to drive it home everyday.Well one time someone came and sucked the fuel out of the tank and went into the cab and took a whole bunch of tools he had left in there. After that the combine would be making extra trips everyday to the field and back home again.NUTS man.Mankind has really gone done the tube if you ask me.I don't steal peoples things,I don't even ride my sled in other people's property, but I have sledders come on to my property like it's there place. They are running over my trees and my irrigation pipes.
I think this theft of gas thing is only the start,it will slowly begin to be a real problem for people. My truck would run nearly $160 to fill the 2 tanks.I would be really pissed if someone sucked my tanks dry.My truck is never left in my driveway at night,in the garage it goes. And I am in a quite little country setting here.I hate to say it,but everyday someone will get up and get in their car to get to work only to find their gas tanks empty.SAD THING!!!!

Schnieder trucks is governing their trucks to 60 mph. They claim it will save the company 3.75 million gallons in a year. This should be put in to law or let companies pay taxes or fees if they want to drive faster.

Gas and fuel prices will get worse. Our poor leadership has not even mentioned the topic of peak oil, which is not certain, but very possible, and predicted by the geological community.

Shure and lets put a govener on your car lets say 70 mph!Than dictate the size of the house you are going to build!Or how about the 800 you have there? No need for that is there. How about manitory car pooling if you are driveing downtown.Lets say you cannot drive in the passing lane if you are alone and you get stuck behind mr schneider there like the rest of us truckers doing the speed limit untill you come to a hill! With the price of fuel you ether are a idiot to drive 120 with your own truck or a guy in a hurry like everybody else in this world.

I get better milage at 70 mph. The truck is geared to match the HP for that range, 525 ponies 355 rear with 18 speed over drive. Schneider runs mostly 385 or 425. They are under powered and labor at higher speeds. Plus if you are getting paid by the load or mile time is money.

Time is money. But basically it is a losing battle. As the fuel costs go up,hopfully the truckers can charge or make more,or else a lot of them will just give it all up.But in the long run we all loose. The Oil Baron(OPEC) always wins and they are laughing at us while there own people starve.I say a-bomb them all and lets get back to the horse and buggy days.A lot of things in this world we really don't need. Its the essentials that count. Food, water and good strong families .With the fast pace world, are we really any happier in life. There is always stress and pressure to always do better and make more. What for? Live a simple life and you and your family will be happier for it.Who needs the 300 plus HP cars or trucks to drive to work.Who really needs like a 100" big screen TV. I have scaled back my hours at work because I want to.I work 4 days a week and enjoy 3 day long weekends.May even scale back more yet.Everything I have is payed off basically. No more mortgage. Now should I go now and buy a new $600,000 house just because. Some do that exact very thing.Get themselves in debt again. When the cookie crumbles, guess who will crumble first.New house,3 cars,Big screen TV's and oh oh...job loss.Bang and now are you any happier. The future consists of hard times. Those that survive are the ones that were smart and didn't go beyond their means.I couldn't imagine loosing my house,my job and what I have workeed for all my life.
If everyone plays it cool by driving a little less speed and don't make a trip to the store for a pack of cigs only.the fuel usage will drop and the demand wouldn't be as high.I still see guys driving their 4-wheel drives and SUV's on the highway racing way past the speed limit and I laugh at them when they pass me.I say to myself..you'll be filling up soon again, enjoy you little driving spree and thinking you are cool. It's you money, burn it all up in that 300 plus HP vehicle you drive.

BM you veiw of life in general is very depressing to say the least. It might be time to start going to church or look for a hobby you enjoy to get your mind off of everyday problems that are dragging you down.I have allways said when you think you have it bad look around and there will be people that have it alot worse.Money isnt every thing and comeing home to a happy healthy family every night is something you can be thankfull for.Myself i enjoy the demolition derbys my son and i particapate in and really let off some steam when i climb in the cars we prepare.Driveing a truck in toronto is frustating at the best of times.Driveing into the ring with a dozen other animals is a blast and i laugh the hole time i am hammering and getting hammered.Cheers buddy

blue..what about a smashup derby with sleds.I am game for that.Take some doo's and lets give her.
Hobbies!!!Well I keep busy with the yard maintenace since I have 3 acres of grass to cut and also putting in a new garden plot and will be growing fresh vegies, another thing to keep busy at.I am going to be erecting a small shed to store all my junk, tractor and such and going to convert the garage in the back yard into a sled garage.Going to insulate it and will be able to keep my sleds from the freezing cold all winter and will be my work shop for the sleds.
I have lots to do this summer until the snow flies. Also restoring and rebuiding my vintage sled 1976 Pantera 5000 this summer. This sled will be cheap to ride when the gas goes to $7.00 a gallon.
