well, it was really easy to get the pipes off, everything went smoothly.....
first question is..... can i get new gaskets for where the pipe manifolds bolt onto the block? i don't really want to reuse the old ones....
second question is.... When i send my pipes and can out for ceramic coating should i tape over all screw holes or leave the screws in? specifically on the can where the heat shield screws onto it, i am going to tape off the area where the manifolds bolt to the block.
third question is.... should i not get those clamps that connect the pipes to can coated? would i have clearance issues otherwise?
fourth question is.... Those bushings on the can side and where the pipe connects to the manifolds are pretty F***ed up, they seem to be a aluminum coated wire mesh of some type, can i still get those from yamaha? i don't think i can reuse them, they are pretty soft and frayed....
final question..... When i get my pipes coated, do i have to put the heat shields back on? i don't really want to, the coating will give me adaquate insulation? but will the pipes fit differently without the shields in place?
thanks for any type of help.
Joe

first question is...yes...try richierich a vendor here on t.y.
second question is.... No don't bother cause, the paint shop will most likely dip (Acid wash) your header & can & then ceramic-crome them...after if the bolt holes aren't big enough, you can ream them out or drill them...worked form me...
third question is...yes...but ask the paint shop to go light on the application...
fourth question is...most likely...get a hold of a vendor here on T.Y.
final question...no not really, just put reflective tape on the foam inside the hood...
Others will chime in with there wisdom/experiences...good luck...post before & after pics...cheers

Joe, all good questions, my suggestions are below:
first question is..... can i get new gaskets for where the pipe manifolds bolt onto the block? i don't really want to reuse the old ones....
Yes, you can get new gaskets from Yamaha. I'll look up the part no. and send it to you.
second question is.... When i send my pipes and can out for ceramic coating should i tape over all screw holes or leave the screws in? specifically on the can where the heat shield screws onto it, i am going to tape off the area where the manifolds bolt to the block.
Most places that do the ceramic coating will put in some high temp. rubber plugs in the screw holes. You could tape off the holes and include a note with the pipes as to the holes and surfaces you wan to be left uncoated. The ceramic coating gets baked at a high temp so you'll need to use a polyimide tape for the masking. They should have this.
third question is.... should i not get those clamps that connect the pipes to can coated? would i have clearance issues otherwise?

Yes, you can still get these from Yamaha. The seals which connect the pipes to the manifold are about $17 each and the seals which connect the can to the pipes are $33 each. The manifold to pipe seals are very important, must be in good shape for a tight seal.
final question..... When i get my pipes coated, do i have to put the heat shields back on? i don't really want to, the coating will give me adaquate insulation? but will the pipes fit differently without the shields in place?
I just had both sets of pipes for my 2 SRX's done by a local ceramic/powder coating outfit. I put the heat shields back on. They are there for noise suppression and to keep the pipes hot. The exhaust gas temp.is an important part of pipe design. You want the exhaust gas to be a hot as possible, the hotter the exhaust gas, the lower the density and more free flowing it is. the ceramic coating will add insulation value but not nearly as much as the original heat shields. Polish them up, they look pretty nice polished
I'll send you all the parts nos. this afternoon.

Wile pipes are off now is the time to replace PV seals(if needed, leaking?) clean and adjust them, very important.

Should i take the dount seals off when they get sent out to get coated? both can side and head side? or should i leave the old ones on so they don't even coat there? mainly concerned about clearence issues.........
Was i suppose to cut those clamps off of my heat sheilds to get them off? damnit.... can i get new ones of those too?

Take the donut seals off both ends. You will not have clearance problems after the pipes get coated.
Who are you sending your pipes to for ceramic coating?

Classic coatings in Sheboygan wisconsin, about 15 miles from me......
If i can't find any clamps that are the same ones that i cut off, i am probably going to weld them on..... 4 tig welds on each heat shield/pipe....
You have those part numbers for the gaskets and the donut seals Jim?
i am getting the pipes and can coated with black ceramic coating, they do two coats on everything.
