I will try to explain this the best that I can. I have two computers and a lap top. I got the laptop to work wirlesss on the lynksis. I did not lock or secure our router. One day went to log onto the laptop and it has no sound. Like someone disabled it. The next thing I know is that the laptop will not even work wireless anymore. Then I took out the RAM from the main computer(LAN) to put it in my computer(LAN) to make it run faster. We have his and her computers so I robbed hers lol. I do not know if that has anything to do with it or not. Because the main computer is not running anymore... Just to see I put everything back to normal her RAM back in the main comp and turned it on, the laptop still did the same thing....
Basically I cannot get our brand new dell laptop to stay connected wirelessly. I have tried everything. Redoing the network, yada yada. What the laptop says the most is either I have multiple IP addresses or invalid IP address..
I can however still get Online with all of my LAN computers, just havin problem with wireless..
anyone that can help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

how old is the router, let say about every two years you will be in need of a new one...just happened to me...change your wireless router & go with the extended range lynksis & you will be up & running fallow all the cd instructions & you will be secured & running.

No reason to buy a new router unless it is constantly giving you fits. Make sure the router has the newest firmware. Click HERE to find your specific router model. Any other information that you need to find out about the router will be on a sticker on the underside of it. Download the correct firmware for your router, save it to your desktop. Now access your router's web interface by typing "192.168.1.1" into the address bar of internet explorer(without the quotations). It will ask you for your username and password. If you did not change it the Username will be "admin" and password will be blank. Go to the tab where you can upload the newest firmware to your router(sorry, don't remember what the name of the tab is). Click the file that you downloaded to update the firmware. It will take as long as 10 minutes, be patient. After that is done plug your laptop into the router via a wired ethernet connection(Cat5, just like your desktop is hooked up). Go to Windows/Microsoft Update and make sure all software and hardware updates are installed. There is a separate tab for hardware updates on the left side so make sure you check that. This is assuming the laptop is running Windows XP. If it's running Vista then the process is slightly different. After all updates are downloaded and installed, restart your laptop and the router. The router can be reset by holding the small pen point sized button on the back of the router for about 3-5 seconds. The lights on the front of the router should start blinking and stuff when you do that. Make sure the laptop will connect via a wired connection first and then unhook wired connection and make sure it will hook up wirelessly.
Moving on to the RAM and sound issue. It is very unlikely that the RAM has anything to do with your sound not working. Most likely a hardware/software glitch. Make sure all updates are applied from Windows Update like I mentioned before. If that does not fix it make sure speakers are connected correctly and that the audio is configured correctly on the computer.
Let me know if that works and if you have any other questions just ask.

I just thought that if I removed the host computer from the system which is my wifes computer(taken all of her ram and puting it in mine,, hence her computer not working anymore because of me taking the ram) if that would affect the way the wireless system works.

Like shortstop said the best thing to do for your router is to reset it and start over. Now when u say stay connected does that mean it connects for a few seconds and then nothing? If thats the case try goin into the router settings and there should be a setting for channel. The default is automatic (should be). try setting the channel to 11. what happens sometimes with wireless routers is that there is a glitch in the firmware and when its set to automatic the router will pick a channel for a few minutes and then change itself.
For the sound what version on windows are u running? If it's bran-new from dell im going to assume it's Vista, (which pretty much sucks). If u have done all you can re-install drivers make sure the sound default didnt get changed (vista does things by itself). to change the defalts in vista to make sure your computer is set for the right output do the following - Start, control panel, classic view (on a list on the leftside ofthe window), then click sound. this will open a new window with a green check next to the pic of the speaker. if there isnt, then right click and select "set as default device"
if none of this helps shoot me a PM and ill let u know what else u can do. Hopefully this helps you out and it's this easy.

I want to assume that you have set your router to assign ip address. This may sound silly but, what operating system is your laptop running? Is it plugged into the network(wire) are the same time you are trying to connect wirelessly?
If you are running xp start>run>cmd then type ipconfig it should list all of your network connecetions. You can then try to release and renew them by ipconfig /release when it is done that type ipconfig /renew.
I know it is a dell but some of hp's laptops have huge issues with wireless, one of the fixes was to do a bios update and the wireless would start working again, aother was to uninstall the wireless card(in system devices) and reboot and let it refind the drivers. Or see if there is a driver update for the wireless card.

my ex's dell was the same way (pos). i think the way she fixes hers is by swearing and screaming at it lol. To update the bios on a dell is a bitch because the bios come form the factory with a code so the average joe can update it. dells website should give u more info on that part. updating the bios is easy but dangerous. if there is a small flaw in the code that happened during downloading or on the floppy disk itself you may not be able to turn your computer back on again then u'd have to call dell and get a new bios chip casue they dont have a bios flash on the MB so that option should be last ditch effort. make sure evrything is updated (the card, windows xp, and the dell wirelss software)if its up to snuff, ur next real best bet is (if its not too late) take the old router back and get a differnt one. those routers are known to stop working without explanation or you can get a new adapter card for your laptop. they start at 20 and go up from there.
i forgot to ask virus scan firewall? uninstall everything turn them both off and then re install. firewall is a big problem sometimes.
or
start-control panel-system- look for "device manager" once open ther will be a list of installed hardware on the computer click network adapters-then find the one with wirless-right click it, select "properties" and that will tell you if the chip is working right, or if its even "enabled" or disabled then u'll know if its its atleast your computers problem or the routers
