I'm wondering what the differences between the motors and HP would be. Can anyone shed light on this?

I may have the opertunity to get the 500 into our late model 440 IFS oval classes. Just trying to plan ahead

thanks

Your talking about the late 90's early 00 500 twin motor right??

The motor was the same in all of them. The differences were in the suspensions mostly.

the xt had steel skis, the sx had plastic skis and both of these only had (i think) 8" of travel on the rear. the sxr500 was long traveld in the rear, geared down 1 tooth in the chain case as compared to the pre 2000 models with same motor and had plastic skis. i was also told that the years you are looking at it was bad to remove one layer fron head gasket like the vmax 500's as yamaha had already raised the compression on these and you would need consistant high octane gas for it to run safely.

No diff. with the motors? interesting

Any chassis weight diff?
Yep motors all the same, chassis about the same too, except if it had e start or plastic ski's that added or lost a extra few pounds..

like Maim said yamaha put a thin HG in already so comp was pretty good..

the heads changed slightly in 99 (i think). they added the idiot light sensor for the temp gauge. just thought i would chime in with a little bit. didn't they add a TPS or throttle cutout override in 99 too?

I was trying to argue with my race group to allow me to run a 500cc sled in the new Pre '08 440cc SnoPro class. The fact that sno cross is dropping their 440 sleds is making some intrest for a new oval class for these sleds.
I lost my argument and they wont let me run. However, I still would like to find a cheap 500 to put on the ice just to prove my point
