I just picked up 2 03 vipers with 1 being a Er. The viper has a front heat exchange along with a rear. Do I need to put a rear heat exchange on the ER seening as it does not have one. Will I have a problem with overheating if I do not put one on? If I do need one does Yamaha make one for that sled or do I need one off of a different model?

Thanks
Steve

I have a 2003 Viper with no reverse and no ES, and it's fine without the rear cooler. I only had one problem over a 20km stretch on a lake which was pretty much bare ice. I just scraped up some snow and put it on the running boards for that stretch over the lake.
You'll be fine.

No required, but helps if you ride in marginal conditions. Its only a must have if you add triple pipes.

I had occasional overheating problems and added one. I have not had the light come on since, even on long stretches of bare roads.

Yamaha had a low cost oem one. It was under $60 which made it an easier decision. Don't know if they still offer it.

I think I am going to put one on just to be safe. Could you guys tell me where to get one. I will check yamaha to see if they make one, but if they don't where do I go to get one? Thanks again for the help.

The one they sold in canada was the srx rear heat exchanger. The sxr on has smaller pipes than the viper/srx one. You should still be able to purchas the srx one. Or check on here for someone parting out an srx.

Pioneer Performance has the srx/viper real cooler. I bought mine off a ty good friend and installed it. It helps keep the sled cool, after having the sled over heat at night once I thought it was time.

$75 for the exchanger. Email or call Bruce Schrader at Pioneer and he will hook you up. He also revalves shocks and man did that make a difference to the sled.

Was it a used or new exchange? I just went on Pioneer Performance's web site an they are looking at 165 for a new.

It was run on the sled for an hour, I would say new. Another place to look is Port Yamaha or Yamaha.
