As some of you know Im in the process of building a Mini Sandrail that will be powered by a stock Viper motor. Well Im no gearing or clutching expert so I thought this would be a good place to start to find out some info before spending a bunch of money on parts I wont end up using. Heres what Im working with for the rear......
-Stock Viper Motor
-Stock Viper Chaincase and Gears
-Vipers drivershaft with drivers removed which will house my primary drive sprocket that will be machined to fit over the d-shaft and be welded in place once everything is aligned.
-Next will come the chain which will wrap around the secondary sprocket that will be mount to a custom shaft that will house both the sprocket, rear rotor, 930 CV Flanges. All being mounted through/to a Banshee axle housing.
-Next will come the Race prepped 930 CV's and Axles, which will run to Grizzly Outer CV joints where those will be machined to fit a custom flange that will be keyed and welded to the CV joint.
-The outer CV's will run through Grizzly rear knuckles and hubs to achieve IRS
-The hubs will be mounted to ITP's Black 12x7 Type 7 wheels(rear only) wrapped in Maxxis 25in tires that came from a newer Kodiak.
What Im looking for performance wise???
Im more worried 0-60mph more than anything but wouldnt mind for it to do 80+ on top end.
For sprockets Ill be using either banshee or 250r which on either one I have the choice of 11-17 teeth on the front and 36-74 teeth on the rear.
Est. weight: 800lbs MAX.
Any help or useful info is much appreicated!!!!!!

not sure of your budget but my neighboe has a polaris 400 and i have been staring at it and the trans thinking that would work great with a snowmobile motor cause it uses a primary and secondary like a sled ..so you could put a polaris trans with the secondary on it and have probaly almost perfect gearing for what you want ...and it is pretty small and has chain drive out the side for you to run to the axle ...just a thought

Im limited more on space then $$$$, the expansion chamber doesnt leave me much room since the wheel base is only 100in. Plus I dont know how well that gearbox will hold up to a 100+hp motor compared to the 400cc(20-30hp) is was built for. thanks for the thought though.
Come on gearheads I know theres someone on here that has knowledge of gearing!!!!!

the last one i did had a sled motor on it with a setup like what you are talking about doing but the secondary and drive shaft was turned into a jack shaft and a sprocket(about 6 inches round) welded to a 1 inch collar and collar slipped on shaft and ran to a live axle but it was a very tight fit cause the whole cart was olny 70 to 80 inches long at best and we had several diffetent sized sprockets for it ..but now it has a 450 streeet bike motor on it ....hardest part it keeping it from going in circles with the street tires on it .....and with nobbies on it you cant keep the front on the ground to steer it it is alot of fun and 0 to 100 is scarey fast ...i would love a tripple 600 or 700 on one of these ..i would start off with stock gears as that should be pretty close to what you are looking for but i am no expert by any means but have build some pretty crazy things .good luck
your using 2 seperate gear reductions along with a varible ratio belt drive?

Im being told by a known member MiniBuggy.net that I should shot for 7:1 ratio. So to acheive that with my sprocket options I would need to use the chaincase which with stock Viper gearing would get me 1.7:1 closer.
But please share any ideas or outlooks you have.
I also plan on using H/C's for the clutch setup.

I have to find someone to post pics for me. Right now the frame is just pre fab together not even tacked. I just built my fab table yesterday since there was no way I was building this thing on the ground. I should have the main frame all tacked together by the end of this weekend as long as the weather stays somewhat decent.
