Whilst (lol) checking through my rear skid last year I noticed one of my limiter straps was torn in the middle. The other was tattered (technical term) but not ripped through. Figuring the damage was caused by one of the many studs (10+) that pulled through the previous year, I went ahead and replace the torn one and decided to just keep an eye on the other. Then I rode the whole season without issue.
Well when I went to grease everything up for summer storage I noticed that the same limiter strap (the one I replaced) is torn through in the middle again! WTF? I looked around to see what could be causing the damage and the only thing that makes sense is the FRA. It looks like the bottom part of the loop is contacting the strap and eventually chops it way through.
Has anyone else experiences this issue? Is my suspension setup too soft? Anyone got any ideas?
The other “tattered” one looks like it’s a little worse then it was, but it’s still not all the way through.
HELP!!!

Yup, I broke through 2 of them on my SRX with re-valved viper shocks! (basically the same as your skid)
I assumed it was because I had my viper shocks valved progressively which ended up having somewhat too little damping on the rebound than I would have liked...but for the most part it is setup normally.
I guess these things just suck for riding hard over moguls or jumping!
I ended up putting on HUGE limiter straps that I picked up from the local parts place. They are both 2x longer and 2x thicker. They are so long I was able to wrap them around both bars on each end. This way each strap has 2 lengths connecting the rails to the W-arm for roughly 2x the strength on top of the fact that they are 2x as thick....
SO... I guess my setup is 4x as strong now. If I rip any more then I MUST have some other issue!

i bet your limiters can move around on that lower shaft. if they can, when the front arm is compressed it will bow the strap back instead of up. this will make it closer to the fra when compressed.
the good lower arms will have a small metal wire welded to it to keep the strap from turning. yours may be broken or missing. if you dont have one, you can just drill a hole in the strap and shaft and put a stainless screw in it to keep the strap from spinning.

My old ones did have that metal strap around them.
I had to grind that strap off in order to fit my larger straps on...maybe a stainless screw would be a good idea now....

Mine has the metal wires, but I think the one on that side is broken. Guess I'll do the screw thing or figure out another way to stop it. Thanks for the info.
i didnt realize it was that big a problem, ill add it to my skid article for something to check.
