I have read all the threads and have a good idea of what is wrong and what to do w/my 2000 SRX700. W/that being said I do not have the tools and mechanical experience to fix what I got... unless I want a sled in pieces on my garage floor. Which does not make for a fun season. I think I fixed the wiring harness as well as the wiring under the seat, but still have the indicator light issue. Sometimes on start up it blinks 3 times, sometimes 1 or 2. Think I have a bad sensor as well as a stator issue. Sled at the end of the year fell on face at full throttle. It jumps out of the hole but then bogs down. If you leave it out in cold in a stiff breeze for over 20 mins you might as well just end your day, cause it ain't startin. But let it sit out over night and it will start. Which tells me something is gettin wet and or shorting out. W/that being said now I have a drive issue. Was doing some hill climbs and and while going up the grade it seemed to screech like metal spinning on metal. My one buddy said NBD, it was something seperating and is normal? I didn't think so either. Anyways, I am located in Toledo Ohio and am looking for help. I have friends that work at the dealership, but w/their prices... as well as everything else. I need to fix it on my own or sell it. I have asked around and everyone says maybe they can help in the fall or later. I would prefer to have it fixed prior to the season as opposed to the last minute if at all. I love my sled and don't want to sell, any help is greatly appreciated.
Polardog, SkiDon't, Arctic Crap!!!

Its making noise on hill climbs? Check your track tension, It may be too loose and slipping. It will do that when going up hill. How many miles on the sled? Check the clutches for worn parts and clutch alignment. It wouldnt hurt to open the chain case to check the chain tension and related parts for wear. all should be gone over every season anways. Everybody can pitch in here and hopefully you can get your electrical gremlin resolved by the first snowfall. Still alot of time.
If worse comes to worse, You can get in touch with Mrviper700 (Don Pizor). He lives in the North East corner of Ohio. Brookfield I think. He could take a look at your sled if you got it over that way.

my yamaha mech. friends tells me there were wire harness issues w/ these where they would chaffe the wires under the engine(i think) and would cause some issues. he didnt mention anything about sensors going bad, so maybe your wires are already chaffed thru and it is grounding out the electrical system. just a guess.

The wire loom under the engine will make your light blink sprutically as well and make it run funny or miss. Mine even showed me over overheating when it wasn't . The wire loom rubs through on the front of the tunnel just to the right of the oil pump going under the engine. The only way to cure it reliably is to take the engine out to get good access to it. Once mine was repaired, all the electrical issues went away and it ran a ton better.
Been there, done that.
If you lived closer I would help you...Ohio too far away.

Bought sled from HondaEast 3 yrs ago and had preseason service done the last two years. Sled has roughly 4800 miles on it. 140 Psi in each cylinder cold. Pulled the wiring harness and saw minimal chaffing. I wrapped wires in electrical tape, then the whole harness as well. Then finally, put condiut over the entire harness. It seemed to fix the problem till I got out in fields. Sled is spoiled and stays in heated garage which doesnt help. It's hard to diagnose the problems when you can't replicate riding conditions. Especially w/our lack or snow and up and down winters.

conduit on the harness ?? you mean plastic wire loom ? my srx flashes 1 or 2 times on start up but i dont have any of them problems you described ..i belive mine is cause it starts at a very low idle and works up ..and light starts to cycle before it has enough power from stator ....might try using some dielectric grease on the plugs on stator and cdi moisture could be getting to your plug ends ....worth a shotonewickedr1 said:Bought sled from HondaEast 3 yrs ago and had preseason service done the last two years. Is your tors disconnected? Also check and clean your pv's.
Clean out those carbs REALLY good and blow em out with air. Definately open your chaincase cover and check out your tension and gears to see signs of slippage as stated above. I would also check on the left side above your left foot, I had issues with wires there also. How is your track tension?
Cheers,
Rick.

JUST SO YA KNOW THAT OIL LEVEL LIGHT FLICKERING OR BLINKING WAS A WARRNTIE ITEM AND FIXED THROUGH YAMAHA. UPDATED SENSOR MIGHT STILL BE AVAILABLE. I JUST HAD 2000 SRX RUB THROUGH THIS PAST SEASON. BOUGHT MY 2000 BRAND NEW AND NEVER HAD ISSUE. SLED STARTED REALLY ACTING UP, MY HEADLITE QUIT AND TACH STOPED WORKING. ALSO MY HI-LO BEAM KILLED ENGINE. REAL MESS. EVERYTHING WAS FIXED WHEN I FOUND SMASHED WIRES UNDER COOLANT HOSE. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Did you cut out the flattened part of the wire and splice? I never thought the wires being flattened was an issue. Or should I replace the whole wiring harness? B/c all the symptoms you described sound awfully familiar. Did you reroute the wiring harness as well? I would imagine over by the clutch, ontop of the sheet metal housing?
As for the dialectic grease, it did hit everyfitting I could get to when I fixed the wiring harness... or so I thought. I will have to try it on the plug wires as well. As for the crank case and the chain tension, I will leave that for someone else.
Thanks for the imput guys. I probably have to put my Va-Jay-Jay away and just rip into it.

Does anyone have a wiring harness or stator?
probaly better off fixing old harness it is a real pain in the butt to change it completly i just took mine out completly to power wash the grease out of the tunnel ...best bet is unplug the wires at the head light and pull it back through to repair ....keep in mind there are a couple of fold over wire holders that hold it ...cut out bad wire and soder them back together ,,,,might have to add wire if you have to cut out more than a few inches ....than reroute it up top ....be alot easier than changing whole harness ...if you need i can take some pics of were the wire holders are so you dont have to search to find what is keeping wire from pulling through ....also you could put it back under the motor by tying a string to it ,,,,after you tape it and loom it real good ....i have removed my motor so not sure how the string works .....being you have the 2000 i would say the harness is your problem ....bad stators were in the 98 99 models ....just start tearing into it .....looks like a hard job but is alot easier than it looks .....probaly easier if you pull air box and carbs ,,,than while you got them off go ahead and clean them ......good luck
