I'm searching for center and rear shocks for my 2001 MM, ohlins. Let's face it, finding exactly 2001 mm ohlins shocks is pretty slim. Therefore I thought, how about shocks from other yamaha's that fit?

I've looked in the 2001 update book and found this measurement called "Installed length" of the shock. Is this the length that is important when looking for shocks from other models that fit the MM? It says that the "installed length" of the mm rear shock is 353,5mm which means if I understand it correctly that shocks from a Venture will bolt right in because it also has this same "installed lenght".

Shocks from say an sxr won't fit because their installed lenght is 368,5mm.

Is installed length the measurement that is important or is it something else?

I've heard that the "eye to eye" length is what counts. What does this mean really? I've also heard of "free length". What has this to say? I mean if I have two different shocks with different free lengths and same installed lenghts, won't it go right in? Clarification please.

I even heard that the weight of the shock itself has something to say for whether it will fit or not. Anyway, if a ohlins shock from say a warrior has the same "installed lenght", 353,5mm as my mm shocks, won't it fit then?

Thanks

The longer shocks will work just fine. Add 10 mm spacers to your transfer rods and they will work even better. Maxdlx

Hoping to find here from a member, if not I might have to go the expensive way, Hauck has one for approx 640 usd..

wonder if they are the sam as flatlander viper ones? bought a set of olins for my brother off of a 2001 mm700 here and now you have me wondering if they will fit.

All the long travel pro-action skid can/will use the same shocks. Depending on the transfer rods you may have to add 10mm spaces to the end of the shaft to get the full travel out of them. You guys are overthinking this.

Uhm, you lost me, ADD 10 mm spacers to the end of the transfer rods? Won't it be the opposite if the shock is longer? And adding a 10 mm spacer to the end of the transfer rods will not make the weight transfer any better..

i am pulling a rear skid out of an 01 mtn max as part of my summer projects. srx gets a 156, mtn viper goes 151, and the max gets the 144 from the vipe. 141 skid will sit in storage or sell. may have parts you need.
