I've been reading up about skid swaps, and I'm thinking I want to put an edge skid in my viper before winter. I'm not worried about doing the install myself, especially with the help of this great site. But yeah 99% of my riding is rough and in ditches, and while I have the proaction set up fairly well, I think things could be alot better. What's a good place to look for one, at a decent price? I don't want to spend very much, otherwise I might just stick with the proaction. There's one on ebay for $400, but I've heard of people buying them for almost half of that. My viper proaction is a 2003 and has only 1600 mi on it, what would that be worth to sell?

I'm sure you can get 200 fro yours, but if you wanna sell it fast 100 will do it. Regarding the Edge skid with haydays a month away you should wait and see what you can get there....Nick

Kinger on the 4 stroke side has one for sale, and it has the pps shocks. Get ahold of him. Maxdlx
i saw kinger's, i havent contacted him though. his is a very nice skid for sure. idk if i want to spend that much though. i saw one come up on HCS for $300 the other day. the thing is i dont mind having an older skid that needs a little work if i can get a deal on it.

If you like riding rough ditches I would go for a Pro-X skid, it's a much better skid for the big bumps and jumps. They look much the same and are really much the same, but the Pro-X skid is much beefier and made for the bumps and jumps.
which skid has better weight transfer? that's also something i want to improve over the proaction. How is the pro-x in small bumps, I would guess not as plush of a ride as the edge? I wouldn't be beating on it too hard, and I only weigh 160, so maybe I don't need the extra stiffness and strength of the pro-x. Do they both mount about the same? I appreciate the help guys, thanks.

The pro x eats all bumps, and can be set to transfer wicked crazy. I can set mine on my warrior to carry the skis at a slow cruise of 50 mph. It won't turn for crap then, so it is just like any skid there is give and take. Maxdlx

RTYsxv,
I only weight 170 pounds and mine's not too stiff for me. I just set the compression dampening to 0 or 1(soft) and leave the torsion bars on soft for my weight.

I think I might be leaning toward the Pro-X. And I saw one on HCS with walker evans shocks that was sold for $225. Guess I was a few days too late!
maxdlx, what skid is in the viper in your avatar? How does it work with the drop brackets? I've heard they will hurt weight transfer, and that might explain why I can get almost none with my proaction. I will be keeping them though.

They are the CB performance brakets, with a pro action skid. I ran them with a transfer enhancement kit, and it would transfer just fine. Maxdlx
I've been looking on snowest and HCS and have seen a few edge and pro-x skids. One guy tried to sell me a 2004 Pro-X with Ryde FX clicker shocks for $400...I told him I'd wait for a cheaper one, though that is probably a nice setup with those shocks? I sent a PM the other day on a $325 Pro-X. The thing is, I searched the forum history and there have been some selling for $200-250. I might have my proaction skid sold already, but hopefully a deal will come around soon. I wish I could go to haydays and find one. If I find one, I might try to do a thread in the work log forum on the conversion.

$4oo is hi with ryde fx shocks. $325 for a prox x is a good desal if it has WE or fox pps shocks. You need to figure the shocks alone will fetch 300 bucks, so whats the skid itself worth to you. Maxdlx

I'd offer him 400 plus shipping for this skid, it would be a nice upgrade. Maxdlx
the 144 of these would be a good skid too, be cheaper than a 07 iq skid, I'd say 200 to 225 plus shipping

What do you think of this for $500? I'd have the entire IQ package for a 151" setup, 1.25" ripsaw, and all I would need is a tunnel extension right? I think 151" would be WAY overkill for ditchbanging though lol. I could probably sell my 121 track too.

151 is a bunch for ditch ridding, but the 1.25 would be OK. There are alot of places here we ride I am a little concerned with the 144, but the viper is way lighter too than my warrior. Its a good deal, maybe you could swap someone the 151 rails for 121 or 136, or even 144. Paul
Yeah I don't think I want the 151. I think it would be best to stick with the 121 because I don;t really need anything more, I have to find a track then too, and I really do like the track I have now.
How would that 144 cat skid compare to the pro-x? The rails are removeable right, so I could run it as 121? That looks like a decent deal.
I'm a little overwhelmed lol, and I'm not sure what I want and what's worth paying extra for. I was going to stick with the pro-x but there arent very many around at the moment.

They will both be better than what you have for ditch riding but the ZR skid won't be as good as the Pro-X skid IMO. The Cat skid will be softer all around than the Pro-X skid. Just depends on how stiff of a ride you want.
Do you like to hit jumps and take the stutter bumps really fast or are you more of a guy that just rides down the ditches at a decent pace?

I don't jump too much, but we do go really fast. Mostly stutter bumps, or hard underlying drifts. There aren't too many hard hits, so the softer skid might be ok. I almost never bottom the proaction, and it's not set that stiff either. One thing that I do want, is the capability for alot of weight transfer. I know all the negatives that come with too much weight transfer, but I would really like to be able to make a few quick adjustments and have the capability to hang the skis in the air.

The ac 144 will go right back to a 121, and with the fox clikers in it it would be comparable to a pro x. I have some buddies who bleed green, and there skid is about the only thing that doesn't break. Maxdlx
I'm leaning toward that cat skid right now. I thought about it, and I really have no need for a stiffer, stonger skid. I only weigh 160 anyway, and maybe the softer skid is better. It would give a smoother ride. BTW thanks for finding it for me maxdlx. Still wondering about the weight transfer, if you guys would happen to know anything about it.
