well i have a 98 srx 700 and typical wiring problems....found harness under motor shorted pulled harness solder new wires in retape and install split loom cover reinstall took care of my headlight and tach problems, found 3 wires shorted at cdi box were rubbing on aluminum bracket above foot, fixed that all up....is there any way to check the stator or cdi for problems...i know most 98's and 99's had stator problems....not getting enough top rpms...tried clutching adjust and clean power valves

You can measure stators. I hope some one could upload right resistance values here.

Is the powervalve servo motor operating smoothly? remove the cover off servo, place rear of sled up on a stable jackstand, and rev the engine beyond 6500rpm, the servo should smoothly open and close the valves, if its jerking erraticly back and forth then there is a problem in the cdi box if you have repaired all the shorted wires in harness. I have found this to be quite common on the 98-99 srx's

From the service manual:

CDI:
Magneto model / Manufacturer----------- F4T327 / Mitsubishi
Pickup coil resistance ------------------- 189 ~ 231 ohm at 20*C (68*F)
color code ------------------------------ (White/Red-White/Green)

Source Coil resistance ------------------- 392 ~ 479 ohm at 20*C (68*F)
color code ------------------------------ (Brown-Black/Red) ---- misprinted in the service manual as color code Brown-Brown/Red

Source Coil resistance ------------------- 77 ~ 95 ohm at 20*C (68*F)
color code ------------------------------ (Black/Red-Black) ----misprinted in manual as color code Brown/Red-Black

Lighting Coil resistance ------------------ 0.23 ~ 0.28 ohm at 20*C (68*F)
color code ------------------------------ (Yellow-Black)

Flywheel magneto:

Model/Manufacturer --------------------- F4T327 / Mitsubishi
Lighting voltage - minimum --------------- 11 v @ 3000rpm
" - maximum -------------- 15 v @ 8000 rpm
Lighting coil resistance ------------------ 0.23 ~0.28 ohm at 20*C (68*F)
color code ------------------------------ (Yellow-Black)

Coil resistance for grip warmer ----------- 0.753 ~ 0.921 ohm 20*C (68*F)
color code ------------------------------ (Yellow/Black-Black)

Coil resistance for variable resistor ------- 400 ~ 600 ohm at 20*C (68*F)
color code ------------------------------ (Yellow/White-Black/Red)

Coil resistance for thumb warmer --------- 66 ~ 80 ohm at 20*C (68*F)
color code ------------------------------ (White-Black)
