I have a 98 SRX that needs to have the front heat exchanger replaced. I had a track let go last year on the outside window and take out the exchanger. Any suggestions on the best way to attack this, I have the exchanger. Also any recommendations on tracks and studs along with how many and location on track. I bought the sled used so I do not know what track is in it now. I do not race, just trail ride aggressivly. Thanks

Pretty big job for what I heard....motor has to come out....I know a lot of guys here just weld the bad heat exchanger in place....You might want to consider that...Good luck and

easiest way is to throw a hand grenade under the tunnel and plug your ears, clean up old exchanger with a shop vac............... seriously, youll need to remove the engine , disconnect steering lower mount, have suspension removed, driveshaft removed, drill out about 100 rivets, its a big job but not impossible.

Nicko, thanks for the welcome. I wish I could weld it but its bad.
mrviper700 - LOL it has crossed my mind to do your recommendation. I actually got about 95% of the motor out last night. I just have to take off the primary and its out. i already have the new exchanger and the suspension is ready to come out also. I guess I'm in for the long haul but into it now.
Thanks for the reply's, any recommendations on tracks and studs?

Perma Poxy is a new prodect out its like jb weld but does not run as bad.We filled a chaincase cover for a polaris qwad that had a 1"x1" hole in the cover from the chain breaking with nothing but this prodect. And was very happy with it.Dries in 5 min sandable in 1 hour and fully curied in 24 hrs.It sunk about 1/8 in the hole first layer and fully covered next pass in one hour.Hang sled from rafter and clean the fins back with a grinder so you have a1" ditch of no fins.Than clean between the fins so it will stick with sand paper.Use bake clean to wash and fill the cavaty right up to the top[ of the fins with the prodect and it will not leak ever imo.

the sled basically has to be split into two pieces with the amount of rivets that come out...
heat exchanger
I did this this winter and it was a lot of work. Have to take away everything except front frame, tunnel, front plastic and front suspension. Everything else you have to take of. Don´t hesitate to pm me if you need any advice. I think I have some photos also if it can help you. An advice, I bought a compressed air rivet gun and It was a very good investment without it I would still be trying to pull these rivets and you will have one hand free to keep the parts together and the other hand to use the rivet tool. I would not repair the heat exchanger if it wasn´t a very small damage . A new heat exchanger is much cheaper than a new engine. Repair your srx and keep up killin´em all as usual.(I´m very satisfyed with my srx, my friend buy new snowmobiles all the time but I still killin´em all.)
