I bought a 2000 srx700 with blown engine, I am putting a 1998 in it with 4000 miles on it in. I pulled two juggs off and the center looks like the pistons is scuffed lightly in the front, it almost looks like it wore throught the nikasil ?? lining by the exhaust port. It needs new pistons as they are out of spec. Ive got 2 more juggs which are propbbaly in good shape.
Should I just re-sleeve and new pistons ((Wiesco)) or find another juggs in good shape , by stockers and be all set??
Also for the bottom end what is suggested?? Change the seals? The motor ran fine I jsut didnt want to throw it in without at least checking the basics, and its early in the years so there is time to do it right.

You cant sleeve the jugg. You will have to have it bored or honed then re nicasaled..... Or you can buy used juggs in good condition and go that way.
I wouldnt use wiseco pistons, Just my personal opinion. Use Yamaha OEM stuff. Clean up the bottom end look for any leaking gaskets or seals. & Put it back together.

one thing else your going to run into is the 2000 srx uses the 300 watt stator, the flywheel is smaller and it moves the pick up on the case, so to use the 98 engine in it and the stuff to all work, your gonna have to remove the 98 flywheel, and weld 2 new bosses on the 98 case to reuse the 2000 stator and flywheel, the pick up has to be moved or it will not run.
I can help you with this if you need help, have done it many times.

Thanks
Thanks for the info gents...MRVIPER I will see if I can handle the welding myself. If I get everything removed and "eyeball it" will this be good enough, or is it much more tech.?? The 98 motor has sat for around 3yrs should I be worried about the crank seals?? Once again all this info is very appreciated!!!!!!!!!

Magneto
I see the issue with the mag/pickup, is too darn far away. Could I instead mill that pad down 1/8 and weld a 1/8 thick plate to the pickup bracket or do you think this will ruin the pickup??
The crank was not welded, well not by me anyhow. Should I pull it and have this done?? It had around 4,000, if that means anyhting.
