Well my summer project is putting a 1982 SRV 540 motor in a golf cart, but im having trouble removing the motor from the srv as its an aftermarket Comet clutch and both pullers i bought one for up to 1996, and the other from 1996 to present, neither are working to get the clutch off any advice?
The one puller fits but i can thread it in all the way and it doesnt push the clutch off.

does the puller run out of threads, or is there still about an inch or so of threads still showing? if there are threads left, you propably have the right puller. are you using an impact wrench? typically, its not a turn by hand removal, requires alot of grunt force, foul language, and some spiritual attitude. there are some other tricks that apply, once you know you have the right puller.

Im actually not sure if it is the right puller, i can thread in in with a ratchet till i can only see a thread or two, at that point im almost bending the broom stick holding the clutch stationary, but yet it hasnt budged and i am pretty much outta threads... wrong puller ya think? Still new to clutch removal sorry.

It sounds like the right puller. The end of the puller bottoms out on the stub of the crank and forces the clutch off useing the threads. As said use a impact or air gun to remove.Place a large ball bearing in there first to shim it out and give the puller a place to spin on.

Im back in cursing now, how do you guys hold the clutch? Ive snapped a 1" wood rod three times now, using the puller and a 4' pole on the end of the ratchet so i got tons of torque on there but its not budging, at this point i cannot see any more threads they are entirely in the clutch... this thing is really pissing me off as without the clutch off i cant do a single thing as far as the project is concerned.

So now wrapped a nylon strap through all the towers then linked it to the frame so the clutch wont spin and wont flex, then added 2" of rod inside so the clutch puller has more push still can thread it in all the way and it wont come out, thats again with a 4 foot pole on the ratchet and a TON of torque, i gotta be missing something
Next step is straping the sled to a tree, nylon strap from the clutch and a tractor then maybe that will work.

Do you have a butain torch? You might have to give the end of the puller a sharp smack with a hammer there Rusty.

Yeah i have butain and propane torches, you recommend heat? Im gonna take a good air gun to it tommorow see if it will budge it, 4 ft pole with all i have on the end is a TON of torque tho but the impact gun may do it

Yes a slow warmup between the shieves helps, not 2 hot.Sometimes grease pumped in there will help2 instead. You dont want to pound the crank but sometimes a hit with the ham will break it free with lots of torque on it.
