Hi
At what mileage should you change your stock reeds on an srx?
I've tried to figure out that dcs thing for 2 years now and my dealer suggested that the reeds might be worn, not closing like they should on top end, resulting in that the engine does not get as much fuel as it is supposed to get, resulting in a lean condition.
What do you guys think?
thanks

Best thing to do is take them out and look at them. The petals should be flush on the cage. I changed mine at roughly 7,000 miles for peace of mind they were still okay though
you probably load the motor to mutch with your clutch setup .....
Tried several clutch set ups.
it will always do that on top end.
I know about the load thing though but thanks

thats why i love my 98 doesnt need to care about that light loll
when they get bad they will actually burn a shade of brown right out on the edge and leave gaps to the reed block, very easy to spot if you take one out.
I am going to inspect mine this season. 7100 miles on the factory reeds. never been changed.
Don, If the reeds are like you mention, will there be any sign of significant performance loss.. I guess thats one thing I over looked.
EDIT
How much is a new set of reeds? How difficult are they to replace?

I just put new petals on mine i believe they are only like 6$ a pc so around $36 for all 6 petals.
All you got to do is remove the airbox/carbs take the 4 bolts out of each reed cage and pull them out (probably get new gaskets for the cages) 3 itty bitty Phillips screws hold the petals to the cage.

Have you ever put some real gas in that sled and tryed it.Not the stuff for 3 cly cars that they sell there.Real gas....that you could mix with your gas you have been useing to keep the cost down once you find a formula that keeps the light off?
