I made do with my old Arai street helmet last season, but it fogged up and they dont make snow shields for it anymore. Plus, I just bought me an old Yamaha WR500 motocross bike, and I threw out all my old X equipment from the 1980's. So I need to start again.
There's hundreds of choices out there, and a baffling array of helmets, boots, goggles, windscreens, etcetera. What should I do ? Ultimately I want a good quality off-road helmet that can double as an enduro helmet in summer and a snow helmet in winter. Does anyone have a good suggestion? I wear glasses, which really mucks up the whole equation.
In terms of boots, I have nice snow boots for snow, but the WR500 will require that I get some good quality motocross boots. Well, Enduro boots, anyway. I don't think I'll be attempting any double jumps or anything like that. However I need something heavy enough for scraping along wood paths, and supportive enough that when I take an off-bike experience, it'll keep my feet attached to my ankles. If any of you have experience with some of today's offroad boots, let me know about it.

Personally I reccommend Hjc helmets, and if the Arai lid fit good the Hjc should work fine. Hjc makes a nose piece that is removable for summer use, and it is avilable seperate from the sno-cross lids, so you are not limited to the "winter " helmets. IMO you get what you pay for on selecting boots. The more they cost, the better they fit. Ebay is a good place to shop for boots such as A-Star tech 8 or 10, Sidi crossfire and Garne SG 10 (?) When your helmet takes a crash, replace it, as you only get 1 brain, and it's always worth a new lid. That being said, don't buy used.

x2 on the hjc. look at the clx5, with optional breath deflector. take it out for summer. also, single layer goggles typically have more of a hard coating for dust than the dual lense ones. just switch for the season.
