I have been given a '88 (i think, as I have not paid much attention to it) Exciter. As I want to put a phazer together for ice ovals next season, the thought is to change the motor, and any side or hood panels...... anyone have a clue if this will be a difficult transformation?

Can you be a little clearer Monty, are you saying you want to set the phazer up for racing with the Exciter engine, or what? Not too sure what you're saying here. The Exciter is the better handling of the two for ice ovals, but only for real smooth tracks because it lacks suspension, but of course you know that.

I too have some ideas for an exciter based drag racer in an OLD chassis and was offered a brand new phazer engine yesterday, gonna look into that! G.

What I am thinking about is: use the exciter chassis; replace the 570 liquid with the 485 phazer fan motor.... than the hood and side panels to make it look like a phazer. Only reason for this make over..... is the fact that I was given a free exciter.

Maybe someone would be interested in a even steven motor swap? my 570 exciter for a 485 phazer?

This project is going to be a low budget one if I can help it!!!!!

Not sure the side panels or hood from a Phazer would fit on the Exciter chassis. There are some noticeable dimensional differences, but like anything,
stuff-holes-parts etc can be "massaged" to fit. LOL !!

Passing the Exciter off to look like a Phazer would be a fun one.

My wifes sled is 93 Phazer2 & I currently have a 89 Exciter & a 93 Exciter SX
layin in the stable & just looking at those panels & parts...well...it could be fun.

I have spare Phazer & Exciter panels & hoods, but will be cleaning them up & selling for fair market value when the time comes. What that means is, when my project sled is completed!!

Good luck with the project. If it works, post some pics. It is always cool seeing what some one can do with a sled!! ;)!

Bruce.....be nice now.
I've sent some of my race buds your information for Carbides. Hope they get ahold of you.

My biggest question is: how different are the body panels. Would it be all that tough to put phazer sides and a hood on the exciter chasssis? I've never see them side by side.

The motor swap does not bother me, but it just getting this thing to look correct that maters

I was thinking vintage Exciter, that's why I was so confused. For this little swap though, I think your best bet and least amount of headaches would be to try to find a Phazer to swap the Exciter for. I like tinkering and doing projects as much as the next guy, but I think you're in for some grief. Good luck. G.
