Wondering how much of a difference in reading between the two. I know each manufacture will vary some what but, trying to get an average. I have a long hose version about 12 -14 inches long, My compression reads 110..
Any one done a comparison ??? thanks

a long guage will give you about 10-15lbs less compression. its more about knowing what your sled had, what you have now.

depends on the legnth and size of the hose. you are adding the volume inside the hose to the total cc of the combustion chamber.

Its not only the hose but also the thread adaptor, if its not a full thread adpator like the spark plug your adding volume there also. I wouldnt be too concerned with the number as to if they all read the same. A reading of say 110lbs on all 3 means its in good working condition for a fast check, however, a compression test is "ok" to see if the engine has a slightly stuck/seized ring. A compression test doesnt tell you if you need to replace the rings from wear, only a leak down test can do that, its not how fast you can build pressure but how long can you keep it.

Yes, very true. 1 pto side is 120, middle is 110 and # 3 is 115.. and they hold pressure for at least 5 minutes. I have the exact thread adapter, and the hose is quite long probably 3/8" hose.

how much pressure for how long is a solid indicator of good rings with a leak-down test?

Thanks!

well if thats the case my sled is putting out about 165 psi w/ my long hose tester lol. ive always been told as well, as long as thier all w/in the same compression across the board its ok.
