Looking for opinions on clutching a 98 XTC 500. It has electric start, but no reverse. Here is a set-up from the tech page:

47/41 helix, 8-ab weights with a 0.8 gram rivet in tip & pivot empty. Gear down 1 tooth & drop mains 1/2 a size.

Through reading posts the following setup seems to be much more popular:
47/41 helix, 8-ab weights with 2.4g in both holes. Stick with stock gearing in 98 and drop mains 1/2 size.

I almost think the one on the tech page must be a typo because stock it comes with a 13.3 rivet in the inner hole and the tip empty. The 13.3 could be a 2.4 or 3.1g, but either way with that helix change it wouldn't make sense to remove that rivet and put the .8 in the tip. The stock helix is a 45. Thoughts?

8ab style weights shift out way more aggressively & require less mass to get rpm,s.

Turk - Would you agree that there is no way these two setup are going to pull the same RPM though? Obviously I'll test, but this is my nephews sled, so it'll be harder to get it out to make runs.

These set ups are 9 years old. Probably from me. try 8ab,s with 2.4 gram rivets in each hole with a 47/41 helix.

How about a 46/40 instead? :) I am the one who bought that helix from you a couple weeks ago. It hasn't arrived yet, but I'll start with the 2.4 in each hole and see where that gets me.

anything real close works great in thos selds I ran 51/43 on the trail lakes and grass draging with aabs and took out alot of 600's with the combo.

I got the 46/40 the other day. Unfortunately after getting the clutch apart, the weights and rollers are shot. I have new weights coming, but still looking for rollers. May have to go new.
