Well I got a surprise this weekend. Was going to change the hyfax before it gets to cold to work in the shed. When looking closer at the skid I notice the W arm is cracked on one side. This is on a already reinforced W arm. This wouldn't be to bad by itself but somehow the sprocket chew all the new track's rubber teeth on one side.
Instead of welding the W arm and risking of trashing another new track, I'll be getting another skid. I'm looking for a Xtra-10 skid or similar. Xtra-10 is tempting since it has 10.2" of travel which should keep the great handling and wont change the sleds geometry to much. I don't go on big bumps so this should be plenty. Found the mounting measurement to boot.
Now for my question. I don't feel confident enough to tackle this alone. Is there anyone in the Ottawa/Gatineau/Hawksbury area who has a couple of skid swap under his belt? I would pay for your time of course and assist in the install. This way I know it will be done right and at the same time learn from a pro.
Thanks in advance!

Do you have a garage? If so, I could borrow a trailer and bring it over so we can work on it. I prefer driving it to Kingston 3 hours then to have a unknown shop do the work. I am particular about my things and I like a job well done.
I see from other post you know your way around metals and have raced before. Pretty sweet. Is a skid swap a peace of cake for you?

yes swapping a skid is not a problem.....xtra 10 ? polaris ? shouldn't be too bad don't know if is a direct bolt on though likely need to research on placement.some guys are putting viper skids in them too...maybe that could be a consideration?
Yes i have a garage ,Likely would be better to do in November(early ) for me and do it in a day start to finish(i'm trying to prep my sled for 1 grass racein late oct. and some weekends i'm call(for work) in october...i also have volunteered to help 2 snowmobile clubs this year so i don't know when they'll call....let me know

I have a step by step thread in the work log section with pics about swapping a different skid into my viper. So you could check that out for an idea of what goes on. It's not that hard to do, you just need to be very precise and plan everything out before you start drilling holes.

I have an sc10-3 from a rev if you are interested. It's a 2003 440x skid with clicker shocks, excellent shape. I think Bluewho put one in his 98 srx. Good luck. pm me if interested.

SC-10 III is a nice skid but with a travel of 13" it would raise the rear to much for me. Thanks for the offer! If you have a SC-10 I or II around that would interest me.

The xtra-10 is really not that difficult to install...you do need to drill new mounting holes.

The Xtra-10 is from Polaris (made by Fast). From what I have read here it is a very good fitment for the SRX. Almost bolt on and I have the measurement for it too. I never seen any good praise for the Viper skid. If I'm going to a 11.5" of travel then it would be a the Apex Monoshock. Polaris Edge travel is to long at 13.9".
Early November is fine with me. It will give me time to find the skid and perhaps find someone closer with your experience. I'll keep in touch. I really appreciate you doing this. Not everyone would help a "stranger". I still want to pay you for your trouble. If not I'll need to know what kind of hard liquor you like.

(meaning they spend the time and let me in on there knowledge as i really don't have the time anymore ) ( they live too far for me to do something for them, so if i can pass on a favour for someone else here it helps this site.)
There was a guy up that worked at Arnprior Sportland years ago(Steve Duffy) he is an ace, Don't know if he is still around but i trust him.....let me know how you make out.....

I just called. Steve is gone and is now working for Yamaha. I guess he was to good Yamaha wanted him closer.
My old skid is yours. Hopefully I won't need to re-use any parts from it so I can give it to you complete.
