Help! My SRX always ran like dream, never even a hiccup. At 7600 K's I was pretty proud of her, then nothing! I shut it off with the kill switch like always, pulled the switch up and gave her a pull and nothing. There's been nothing since.

I changed out the kill switch with a brand new one, though all I needed to do was unplug it. Did that too! Tried switching CDI boxes..... to no avail, checked every single wire I could think of for continuity, checked the resistance on the primary and secondary coils, all within specified parameters. Took the mag off and cleaned everything, no damage, resistance checks out as I said. Put her back together and pulled the rope...no spark! The headlight is lighting when you pull the rope, but no spark?? I'm at a loss what to do next, any suggestions? Anyone have a similar problem?

The sled is mint and has not been abused, and after smashing up my attak last feb, this is what I've got to ride! Help, the snows coming! G.

You said you checked all wires you could think of. Did you pull the harness out from under the motor? Very common loss of spark issue when they rub through. Of course with srx`s thats my common answer to any electrical problem...lol

I had a similar problem and it was my pickup coil. I'm not sure if my headlight was working or not though. You can measure the resistance across the coil to see if its faulty or not.

My wife sx motor would do something similar. One day it was great and the next nothing. Or better yet, half way through the ride it would die. I replaced the stator and haven't had an issue since.

Last year when I went to fire mine up no spark. Checked everything, ended up being the pickup coil. Check with Betheviper, he's got used ones.

I checked the wires under the engine for continuity, but after it was all buttoned up I realized that I had forgetten to cross check each wire in the event that they were shorting with each other. That said, the pickup coil would seem to make more sense by the way that it quit working. There was no warning, no intermittant problem, just stopped and never worked again. I think I'll just put a new one in it as I don't like using used parts if I can help it, and its just about as much labour to pick it apart to test it as it is to replace it. At least I think it is! Thanks for the input. G.

That is exactly what happened in my mountain srx 9 years ago. needed a new stator.

Mine checked out fine sitting in the garage everytime I checked it. The first time it just wouldn't start after sitting the summer. Pulled all the wires, connections, etc and off it went. The second time we rode it about 15 miles, shut it off, went to go again and nothing. Took it home, did all the checks, found nothing, put it back together and it ran. The last time was the first day of a long weekend trip. About 25 miles out it started to run funny and be down on power. Shut it off and it didn't start. Swapped some parts with a guy we were with and still nothing. Pulled it back to the lodge. Two days later when I went to load it on the trailer I pulled the rope and it ran.

Went home and bought a new stator and haven't had a problem since. Now you know everything I know about it in my sled. Good luck.

They come as a set. You can separate them by depressing the tangs on the plug. I only changed the pick up because the ststor worked fine. A new stator/pickup coil is $200, used is $75~100. I got lucky and found a brand new one on Ebay for $75.

Mine ran fine when I parked it for the summer, but when I went to put it on the trailer to bring it home in the fall it had no spark. :dunno:

Yep if you buy new you get the set. I went that route. Did a little online shopping and found one listed for $150 plus the shipping. Went to my local dealer, told them what I wanted, he quoted me $195. I explained that I could get one for about $160ish shipped and he said "yeah I can sell it to you for that." Had it 2 days later.

$75 is a nice price:-)

It lives! Replaced the stater and she fired right up! A buddy that knew of the problem for months all of a sudden realized that he had one sitting on his parts counter. It was filthy and corroded, looked like a piece of junk, but after some cleaning and hosing down with electrical contact cleaner, it was fit to install.

Cost? The labour to install it! Thanks to all for your input. Back to enjoying that sweet triple sound! Best. G.
