SX700 pipe questions

Hi everyone,
I'm a newbie so be kind & patience please. I'm looking to replace my stock exhaust for a mild upgrade such as triples. Looking for a modest performance increase due to my stock setup being trashed. i.e over anxious teenage son with a welder. The result is the manifold & pipe is kaput. What would be my best option? Would stock SRX pipes be possible or would it be best to go the aftermarket option. As I said before, a modest performance bump is sufficient.

big big job to put srx pipes on a SX....not worth the mods. You can look for a stock pipe and y pipe on this site...tripple is a big performance gain and requires clutching and jetting changes as well.
If you only want modest gains I would get a stock pipe...drill out the can add reed spacers and a little clutching.

Sorry to bring this back from the past. But I have a 97 600SX twin. I am pullin the pipe and airbox to replace fuel lines and general cleaning. I was thinking of doin the head gasket mod as well. My question is about drilling out the can comment? while I have the pipe off I was thinking I might try this as well. PLease explain thank you

The tripple and twin can are not the same. Pretty sure that there is nothing to drill on the twin. The head gasket thin is a nice mod, but you'll want to run premium fuel after. Also that motor will benefit from a either a set of reed spaces or the reed stopper notch.

Ryan Thanks, I am new to working on my snowmobile. Please be patient but when you say reed spacers. Is that the gasket carb and motor?? I did just buy the manual for the snowmobile so I will do some reading. After 12 years I think I am ready to start learning how to work on this thing and get some better performance.

Where the reed block mounts to the motor. There is a port in the cylinder that the reed stopper partially blocks. You can either notch the stopper (in the tech pages) or add spacer to free up the port. They essentially accomplish the same thing. Just a different way of doing it.
