I just picked up a set of hand warmer replacements from Dennis Kirk. They are made by Moose Industries. They have three wires--red, blue and white. It is made to hook to a "low-high" toggle switch.
I want to hook them up to my 99 MountainMax which has the rheostat set up for variable voltage (high and low and all settings in between).
My question is my existing wiring harness has just a hot and ground hook up for each warmer and the thumb warmer is on its own circuit. I need to know what wires to use off the warmer to insure proper function. The warmers did not come with any wiring instructions.
Do I hook the high and low together and then ground each side? Do I only hook up the red or "high" wire and leave the blue unconnected? I don't want to fry the warmers or the rheostat.
We usually stop in the boonies, build a fire and cook some brats and dogs each trip out and I don't want my sled to be the fire source!!
Anyone have any suggestions on the proper wiring to insure that I don't burn out the components or worse yet, start a fire and turn the old MountainMax into a giant bonfire in the sticks?
Thanx in advance gang!

Measure the resistance of the rheostat and try to get a reading of the high side of the toggle switch,I would hope that they would be somewhere close to the same.As long as there wasn't too great a difference I would try wiring up the new grips through the rheostat using the factory bullet connections and wire up the hot wire and ground. The rheostat should be able to limit the heat range the same way as the stock grips although you may lose some of the low temp setting.Try wiring it both ways on the high side first and then the low side and see if the range of heat output is what you think you can live with.I don't know if I'd connect both wires together of the new grips I'm not sure if you'd retain adjustability or not.

DON'T tie low and high wires together to sled's hot wire with remaining grounded... this will demand too must load current and may prove costly to the charging system... not designed for this...
use the "high" wire and the grounded wires ONLY, with the "low" wire unused and taped up... this should work similar to factory..
the "low" wire is the one with highest resistance when measured to the grounded wire... vice versa for the "high" wire, resistance measured from this wire to grounded wire has lowest resistance...
