I have an '03 short tack viper now and have been wanting to replace my pro action skid for awhile now, and have been leaning towards stretching it out a bit. I have 2 skids picked out for the same price of $450 one is form an 02 mountain cat 800 and the other is from an 08 Nitro MTX. Which skid will perform better? seen alot of conversions on the site wiht cat skids but not to many follow up reviews. Or can i find a better skid for the money? Also there isnt much room under there for a more aggressive track like a 2.0" (has one for the mountain cat skid). When i get an anti-ratchet drive wheel would the smaller wheel give me the extra room or does the heat exchanger need to be re-loacted?

If you go to 8 tooth drivers you can run the 2" track no problem. You will have to remove any heat exchanger protectors though. Friend of mine has a cat skid in a 159 srx. Works good, rides nice, but it doesn't see much long term trail use.

the cat skid is a 141 144 i think (unless i use the stock holes then its a 153) and really the only trail riding i'd do with it is t get to the fluff

well if i were you if you ride to the powder on the trails i would get the 144" skid, you should still be able to go through deep powder fairly easily, but if you are into big hillclimbs and real DEEP powder, go with the Nytro MTX skid, but i would personally go with the 144 (thats whats on the '02 Mnt. Cat 800's)
