Just bought my 2000 SXR help needed

if you want a sick sound without buying can or pipes, bore a 2" hole inside the stock can, i heard some videos of them, sounds almost exactly like a can, and people have reported a 2-3 hp increase, dont know if theres any truth to it or not, and i dont know which end to bore into, the end connected to the pipe from the motor, or the outlet where all the exhaust comes out.

What is your mechanical experience and budget? That will determine what you "Should" do... or if you have access to someone that is mechanical if you are not...

i appreciate it man but i am not going to pipe it for now i do wanna clutch and a few little things i have been talkig to opeople about but dont wanna take that mpg drop with gas the way it is

snowdust i can tell you from the looks of your photo i am not as mechanically inclined as you nor have the budget u do lol.. I want to stay cheap cuz it is my first sled and will probably upgrade next year...

I did a lot of stuff to my SXR last year, do a search and you will find tons of stuff to do to your SXR. Hopefully this year I will get around to long tracking it. And like everyone else says stay away from pipes. I bored out my silencer and it sounds good and looks stock so no cops to bother me.

For this year I would do what Turk recommended in his first post:

Reed spacers...used about $30
Bore the silencer...free
clutching...$60ish(3X4.5 gram rivets & a used RX-1/Apex helix)

They are all good items to learn on. The other items mentioned are great upgrades as well, but may be better suited for the future.... There is plenty of help on this board to get you through these first few mods.
:rocks:
Here are your spacers if he still has them:http://www.totallyamaha.net/forums/showthread.php?t=51499&highlight=reed+spacers

And here is the helix: http://www.totallyamaha.net/forums/showthread.php?t=51385&highlight=apex+helix

I agree with the guys here as well, if it is your first sled and you are indeed on a budget then go with the cheap recommended upgrades! If you end up keeping the sled for the years to come, then think about doing some heavy mods. The sleds are fun either way you have them stock or modded! I started out with just a couple cheap mods back in the day when mine were new! And now look! :2strokes:

You said cheap, pipes aint cheap.
The mods these guys recommended will pep up the sled and not break the bank.
The other advantage is that these mods will not effect the reliability of you machine.
Since you just got the sled and haven't ridden it I'd suggest you start with these and see how it goes. My guess is that you're going to be looking into putting money into the suspension before pipes after a couple of days on beat trails any way.
