Is there an easy way to change the sliders (Hyfax) on my 03 Viper? I got started with it and found out they will not fit through the track windows like they did on my RX-1. I got as far as taking the rear axel off but there is still not enough room to push the track over past the rails. I'm sure I'm going about this the wrong way so any suggestions would be great. :whine:

take a sharp utility knive and cut the track window just enough for the hyfax to sqeeze through. do one side, rotate track about 180 degrees, then open window for the other side. that way the enlarged holes are not in the same block. i have had to do this on a few tracks without any issue. or just pull the whole skid out.

you only need to cut about 1/8 inch on each side of the window. i just cut two windows on the same row. if you do it right you are not cutting way that much material and i don't think weakness would be an issue. have done it this way on numerous sleds since 2000.

i have been able to change slides in less than 1/2 hr by using the following method. BUT BE CAREFUL.

flip sled on side. get two big screw drivers and pry the hyfax over the slide rail. start in the middle of the rail. make sure the screw drivers are not gauging the underside of your rail (that is the tricky part). then just walk both screw drivers down the rail, one direction and then the other. then i just grab the middle of the hyfax and pull it off the rail. with this method i can have a hyfax off in less than 5 minutes. then before i put the new hyfax on, coat it will lots of grease.

this works for me but use with caution

I was going to cut out the window a bit and even had the knife in hand but I thought I would check on here first. I like the idea of rotating the trach so they are not on the same part. Thanks guys!!!

What I do now is just take my entire rear suspension out from under my sled. I got fed up with trying to get the hygfax out through the track windows. I have had my rear suspension out a few times. " rail extensions" "bushings" "ohlins shocks" ext. I can take my rear suspension out in about 20 minutes, then I just turn my suspension over and peel off the hyfax. Then just take a rubber mallet and pound on the new hyfax. When you do this, you can check your bushings for wear and any bearings that might be bad. To some people this might sound like alot of work but really it isn't. Just my 2 cents!

That's a great point viper48, it's easier to locate & change worn parts on the skid when it's out.
When you're going through more than one set of sliders a year, the staggered enlarged windows can be really handy too.
