mountain max 600

Well if its a twin, it will be reliable like the triples except with a bit. Well, A lot, more gas, so more trips to the gas station and more money, but as for reliability the have no problems, im just goin' by what other people around this and other forums say about it, but if you know for one sale, how much is the seller asking??? How many km's (miles if your in the US) and if its in good overall condition will determine what its worth.
 
I had a 98 600 twin, was a great sled. Only thing I could say negative about it was that it was a cold blooded pig. Probably didn't have it set up just right, but had to run it on half choke for a few miles after it sat for a few days.
 
I have been running a 96 vmax 600 twin for several years now, it should be the same motor. I have never had a problem with it other than it does suck more gas. Has been very reliable and easy to start...usually first pull. I don't know if the pistons have ever been replaced. The sled has approx 5000-6000 miles on it. It is a backup sled now but is still a blast to ride (remember, not a MM). Now after saying that...if the price is right, get it. But if you can find a triple in the same price range I would definitely go with the triple.
 
97 on up twins had different pistons than pre '97. I had a '95 that I took all the way up to 9,000 on the ticker with original internals. My '97 made it to about 2,200 miles before it blew a piston and huffed the cylinder. Gas issues haven't been a problem, I trail ride with sno-pros and when i'm off trail we are spending most of the day in the woods not putting on any miles.
 
My brother had a 98 600 and it ran good until he started changing parts. once he put pipes on it, we spent more time messing around with the jetting and clutching then riding. He finally got sick of it, put the stock pipe back on and it ran fine. If I were you, I would save my money for a 700, or the 600 triple.
