Hey guys,
I'm confused after reading through the searched threads. Man I'm tired but I'm lost.
Ok I want to gear to get some more MPH out of my srx, As of now I have stock gearing! I will be ripping into the sled this coming Sunday, So I want to changed the gear oil, so why not get some new gears. What gearing should I go with for more top end speed. I have 23/37 now, Maybe 22/38? 23/38? 22/37? AHHHHHHH!!!!!1 What would I have to change to get more top end.
Drop a tooth from 23 to 22 with give me top end right?
Up a tooth from 37 to 38 will give me top end right?

make top gear bigger with all else unchanged = more top end. (in theory)
make top gear smaller with all else unchanged = less top end. (in theory)
make btm gear bigger with all else unchanged = less top end. (in theory)

make top gear bigger instead of bottom gear = less friction, lol (in theory)
regular beer instead of light beer = lighter rider (in theory)

you mean lighter bear instead of regular beer, to = lighter rider.....lol.
i would change the top sprocket as well...going bigger of course. this will give your chain, not such a sharp radius (like small gear), to bend around and will make things in the chaincase a little more efficient.
Hee, hee - No, I had it right.mopar1rules said:you mean lighter bear instead of regular beer, to = lighter rider.....lol.
Fewer beers to obtain same level of stupid = less fluids in the belly & bladder (this is sprung weight too so it makes a bigger difference).

yeah, you did have it right. i didn't see the word "to" before the "=" sign.....lol.
How much MPH would a tooth one top gain you in a perfect condition (IN THEORY)
keep that ratio... put a 24 on ice or very cold day and hard pack

98700,
I had the same sled with porting, timing and other goodies like yourself. I actually dropped to a 22/37 and gained about 3-4 mph on top end depending on conditions. The guy that tuned my sled said that the stock gearing was too tall for the 98 motor. Boy was my buddy surprised when I walked away from his ZRT! He ended up dropping one tooth on his gearing and ended up with gains also.

RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY NOSE!!!! lol. ANYWAYS 98,s WERE GEARED DEFFERENT THAN 00-01-02. ALSO THEY WERE 15 WIDE COMPARED TO 13 WIDE HYVO ON 2000. HOT GEARS TO RUN ON A 98 SRX ARE 97 700 SX GEARS. AND THEIR ALOT CHEAPER. 23-38 WOULD WORK FOR YA. 3:16 (yammie tony)
Ok 23/38 here we come!

FYI, Polaris gears also fit on the shafts. I run Polaris non-hyvo 13W gears in mine.
What Chain, and what model gears?
I have a 2000 and dropped to a 21 on top. The stock gearing was for something like 135mph, which is not attainable under normal conditions. I will try to find the formula for the figure and post it. I use a smaller chain with the 21.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO THEY WERE NOT GEARED FOR 135 MPH. TRY 110. 3:16 (yammie tony)
