Gears??? Damn I'm confused!

98 was geared 23/37 I believe. WAY TOO MUCH GEAR GEAR for that year motor IMO

I would go with a 24/40..

tony was right on . the 2000 and up srx's are geared for 110 mph . the 98's are geared for 114 mph. if your looking for more speed, you should first make sure you are reving 8500 or whatever your pipes call for and make sure your clutches are going full shift (1:1) at your top speed .if your not reaching full shift at your top speed you could gain mph with a lower gear like 23-38 .if you are reaching full shift and full rpm than a taller gear(24-37) would likely gain you mph.

yep running a 24-40 and did 110 on warm days on snow .. and it seem to be full shift ..9801srx seem to tell the truth

How can I ensure that my clutches are going into Full Shift? How much does an overdrive Sheave help?

put a mark on your primary sheave with a magic marker ,a inch or so long ,do a wide open run and see how far up the belt cleaned away the mark . it should go to about a 1/4" from the top of the sheave . overdrive sheaves don,t help . clutches at 1:1 ratio are more efficent than clutches running in over drive.over drive wastes hp.
