This kinda got brought up in another thread and I figured it was worthy of its own discussion.

There have been a few threads that I have read about people getting screwed over in a buy/sell deal or something of that nature, I'm sure many of you have seen them as well. Now some members are expressing concern and hesitation about who to deal with on this site. That is kinda disappointing to me because personally I have never had a bad experiance with anything to do with TY and I want to keep it that way. from my experiance everyone here seems to be top notch, however, I'm not that nieve, I know there are always a few bad apples floating around no matter where you are.

Anyway, to get to the point. How do we use the reputation feature below everyones avitar? How do we find out about our own rep? I think it would be a good idea if we all 'get educated' about this and become more aware of it that way we know who is good to deal with and who might not be. I know there are those out there who already know about this (mods, long time members, ect) and my goal is to get you guys in here to drop some knowledge on us who are not in the know about this. I think this would be helpful to many of us. Anyone care to enlighten me?
:rocks:

I commented in the other thread. We are discussing this very topic already on how to enhance / change these features. There are many things to consider such as multiple sides to every story. A guy could make a thousand successful sells and makes 1 buyer mad over something simple and that 1 comment could chase members away from buying..follow?

Then of course, that would start a war between members...which we do not want.

Just make sure it does not end up as some kind of joke like it is over on the snow west forum. There people are just handing out good or bad rep points for no reason and it does not give any credibility to the system. Also it seems like some people only speak up when there is something bad that happens to them. They could have 100 good transactions and not say a word but if there is one slip up I am sure that would get brought up. What I am trying to say is make sure that people get the positive credit also so you can see the real story. IMO

Oh yeah I definately get it. I was just throwin this out there to see what everyone thinks about this issue in general. I'm not to sure how to even use the existing reputation feature. I trust that all of the great moderators and admins will make the right change and keep this site as awesome as it is. You guys do a great job with this site and I'm sure you will figure someting out.

How does the existing Reputation feature work anyway?

I agree a good system would be an asset. It would give people peace of mind when making transactions.

if you move your pointer over the little green square, it will show you that members' standing. ( via A++ or A+++ etc. ) One can contribute to another persons' rep by using the the little red/white icon. I believe you can even comment. Of course, as said about we will have to use it. If all we do is report bad stuff, then the system will not work fairly. For now, everyone has to keep that in mind.

Cool, I always wondered what that little green square was all about. Thanks.

If we can comment, how do we see what others have said about ourselves and others? :dunno:

Not sure if post #5 by MrSled still applies or not.

To view comments left for you, click on 'user cp' and then 'user control panel' right at the top. It's in yellow in the first pic.

Anybody who adjusts your rep will show up in that view, like mine in the second pic. I'm pretty sure it will have nothing there untill someone adjusts your rep.

Well here's a positive. I have done many deals with members here and always had a positive result. All the parts have arrived in a decent amount of time ( even the cross border parts).I get updates when they have shipped the parts and I also let them know when I recieve the parts. I have been screwed a few times on ebay but never from a TY member.
Unfortunatley there will always be people looking to shaft someone no matter what kind of system you put in place.I think if you put a red or yellow square up by their name ( thru your feedback system) to indicate a potential problem. This will will give us a "heads up" and we can be a little more careful when making deals with them.

I tried just that and nothing came up.
What's wrong?

Often times people buying are the trouble as well. I am a buyer currently and have had good experience so far with my dealings, but sometimes the sellers will have a person that is unreasonable or gives improper information for shipping(old paypal accounts not updated).

I have done all of the above, shame on me. I had my old addy on my paypal account, but I was able to email the correct one before my goods went out. I also offered someone a stupid low price on something that already was a good deal, but this was due to me being a jerk and a smartass.

Now, buying online for me, is a gamble, I understand that I could get the shaft. I order my goods with the assumption that this could happen. This is why I keep my purchases low. Once I have a good dealing with someone, I will up my $. I do this because of my lack of a bank roll, not my trust in my fellow TYers.

I got one up and that's the one from you. It says I have 16 points? There must be more messages or?
