I am finishing up the electric start install on my SRX and was looking for ideas as to what to use as a heat shield so I don't melt the battery. You can see from the pics it will be pretty close. Ideally I'd like to wrap the closest pipe with aluminum like the rest of the pipes are, but I'm not sure how nice I'd be able to make it look. Anyone got any ideas?

Make a heat sheild out of aluminum that ties in with the battery tray. Leave an air gap between the battery and the pipe. Might work

They also make heat shield that is very thin, cut it the way you want, also it has a sticky back side so you can mount it where you want. Any speed shop should have this. you mount it to the outside on the battery box not on the pipes.
Auto zone...I think carries a header wrap...like old school motor bike straight pipe wrap...& install a heat sheild 10' x 6' x 1" "L" shape 1" away from the battery box by riviting it through the botton of the belly pan & taperring it to the angle of the belly pan...

Be aware that if you do end up wrapping the pipes your jetting will lean out.

Thanks for the suggestions. I worked on it a little today and got the wiring done. I also ran a switch to my handlebar riser so I can turn on the lights and fuel guage of the sled without it running. Should be handy.
I think I am going to bend a piece of aluminum and curve it towards the pipes...attaching it to the bottom of the battery box. It's tight, but I should be able to make it work. Here are a couple more pics.

Hey Snowdust,
Where did you get your electric start from?
I have a 2001 srx and I would like to install electric start on it.
Thanks!

I got it from BetheViper, but really any kit should work. The wiring is not there on the SRX from the factory like it is on other sleds, so you will need to add a couple wires. It's not a big deal. The battery box is a little tricky though. There just isn't a lot of room. You will also need to cutoff one ear of the motor mount so the starter can be installed. If you end up getting a kit, pm me and I'll go over what needs to be done to make it work.
