I have a 1994 VMax 600 and when cold out, the suspension "collapses" and remains collapsed. It doesn't rebound back. I'd like to sell the sled, but don't want to give somebody else the problem, I'd like to correct it. I have pulled the suspension out and when I manually collapse it, I have to pry it out of that position. Do I need a new shock? New spring(s)? Thanks!

I had this happen on 2 Arctic Cats...my understanding was that there was moisture on or in the shock that was freezing and holding it in that position. Only certain conditions it would do that in. Unfortunately it seemed to happen when I would jump it off the trailer at the beginning of the ride and it would freeze there. Makes for a bumpy day! You may have moisture in the shock that is causing it.

I haven't gone through and cleaned out everything, so that is promising. Before I got the sled, the guy had it sitting outdoors for a while so I suspect that is probably the deal. It only happens when it seems to be cold out. During the summer it seems to behave normally. I did go a through and grease it up good, but didn't pull it apart to clean. Sounds like that is the next order of business. The steering is a little stiff too. I suspect it is likely due to the moisture issue of sitting out as well. Any other thoughts?

i'm guessing your shock is junk - can you take it out and compress it and see if it works properly? also those skids need to be removed from the machine and be disassembled to be properly greased.

I also have a 96 VMax XT. Steering is very stiff on it. This seems to be a common problem. I haven't found a cure yet...still looking. If you find a cure I sure would like to hear it.

Vmax

I had a phazer that did that also. It was the shock and after replacing it and cleaning the suspension sissors and cross shafts the problem went away.

there are no grease zerks on the cross shafts in that skid, the shafts are probably dry as a bone.

If you haven't which is think you said you have,
you have to make sure to Grease all of the cross shafts.

Unfortunetly it sounds like the shock is probably Toast my dads 94 did the exact same thing we ended up replacing the whole skid with one from an XT

Thanks for shedding some light on my problem. I'll remove the skid, clean and grease and test the shock. Does anyone know a good "economical" shock that would work that skid? Thanks!
